Black Pearl 88 Ski

The award-winning, fan-favorite Black Pearl keeps coming back for good reason, and a few years ago Blizzard decided to give it some variations on width, so everyone could experience its prowess—both on and off the groomers. The Black Pearl 88 falls nicely into the middle of the collection, with a versatile waist width that makes it a great daily driver or single-quiver choice at the resort. This season the Black Pearl has been updated with Blizzard's brand new TrueBlend Wood Core, giving it smooth flex you'll appreciate whether you're carving groomers, weaving down moguls, or exploring off-piste trees after a storm.

  • An all-mountain daily driver for the whole resort
  • 88mm width can handle both hardpack and fresh snow
  • Rockered tip and tail help you navigate crud or powder
  • Camber underfoot ensures quick edge-to-edge control
  • Short turn radius key for moguls and tree skiing
  • Blended wood core is both stiff, stable, and lightweight
  • Carbon and titanal laminates provide steady response at high speeds
  • Flipcore construction ensures core and laminates work in harmony
  • Item #BLZF050

I use my Black Pearls at my home resort that has pretty variable terrain. I love how they allow me to carve on groomers as well as they can hit the glades. They literally rip through anything. So fun to ride!

These skis are fire! When you want to go fast and rip some arcs down a groomer, they'll do that. When you want to mosey around and not work too hard, they do that for you. When you get to the parking lot in the morning and realize the 2" forecasted was actually 10" up at the top, they'll give you great pow day, too. These skis to anything and everything at the top notch. If I had to go to a one ski quiver, this would be it!

I love this ski, it is so versatile, super stable on the groomers at high speeds (I like to go fast) and fun and playful in the bumps and trees. Oh and it’s great for powder days! What more could you ask for? I am a full time ski instructor at Whitefish Mountain Resort and this is my everyday go to ski.

I have skied a Black Pearl 88 every year since it's debut and this year's model is the best yet. It's still as easy to ski as ever, but the new one is more stable at speed - it has a touch more metal in it. It's my go-to all mountain ski. I teach on it at Snowbird 90% of the time. I have recommended this ski to many clients and friends and it never disappoints. I have full confidence that they'll like it, even if they can't demo it first. I have never had anyone be unhappy with this ski - a best seller among all skis for the past several years.

I've skied a lot in my life! I've skied on different products and brands. I've tested and tried skis in all conditions. I've lived in the east and the west - I know ice and I know powder. I have been spoiled enough to have a quiver of skis in the garage and rarely ski on the same thing two days in a row. UNTIL, I got the Black Pearl 88's this season. I keep wanting to reach out and grab my narrower ski for that wicked icy groomer day or my powder ski for that rad 7" powder day - but I can't seem to bring myself to leave the Pearl's behind. This new Black Pearl seriously does it all. I can make any kind of turn anywhere, anytime with confidence and comfort. I really think the TrueBlend Wood Core makes a huge difference. It's almost like you can feel the various lengths of the stringers working with you to make each turn fun and easy. I even like the bumps now, that's new. I AM A BIG FAN!

88 under foot seems to go every where and in any condition. The Black Pearl 88 truly is a ski that you can buy on line or off the showroom floor without trying it and you will be happy with it! I have spent 48 years in the industry--racing, coaching, teaching, clinicing and working in operations and have not found a better ski for all mountain and skinning. Thank you!

All New and Better Than Ever

Familiarity:

Fit:
True to size

The Black Pearl 88 has been completely redesigned for 2021 and is better than ever. All new sizes, side cut design, rocker profile, and construction specially designed for each size. The needs of someone skiing a 177 and someone skiing a 147 are totally different. Size, ability level, and how they look at the mountain are totally different! Why would you build the same ski for both skiers? The Black Pearl series uses a different construction and flex profile for every single size with the goal of optimizing the performance at each size for that intended skier. The new construction also means a slightly heavier ski. What? Heavier? I thought everyone was making skis lighter? Not anymore. The 2021 Black Pearl 88 goes up in weight to match the weight the first year it was introduced. They’re not Light Weight they’re the Right Weight. Blizzard found that especially in the shorter sizes when the skis got too light they could become nervous and harder to control. By bringing the weight back up to the weight of the original Black Pearl the stability, control, and predictability of the ski has increased dramatically resulting in a ski that feels safer and more manageable for every ability level. This is the best skiing black Pearl ever made. Specifically designed for every any size or ability level.
