- Q & A
Light because it's not padded
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've owned several BD harnesses for 4-5 years each and recently got this one to replace my worn out harness. At first glance it is awesome, super lightweight and looks stylish. However it quickly became evident that the reason it is so light is because there is very little padding. I spend a lot of time in my harnesses and I'm pretty skinny (5'9" and 135lbs) so I don't have a lot of padding either, but this thing hurt my hips like crazy after one rappel. The stitching that attaches the gear loops dig into your sides because they didn't pad around there. If were getting it solely to climb mountains with many layer on, it could work and it would save some weight, but for anything else it's not worth suffering for.
this harness is great. heavy duty loops and doesn't pinch anywhere when repelling
Black Diamonds new harness
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
After taking this harness out to the crag and top roping with it at the gym, I have never owned a BD harness that is quite as well made and light as this one. The gear loops are just a tad smaller than I have ever seen on a harness, but if you're at out at the crag just to hit up some sport climbing, this harness is perfect. It still fits plenty of quickdraws and extra gear like your belay and rappel devices no problem. It is light and super comfortable, still allowing you to move with ease and comfort. The belay loop is also made a bit thinner but is still as solid as can be. I recommend this harness to anyone who is looking for a light and good looking harness for any aspect in your climbing. Cheers!
