    A safe bet.

You could roll the dice and hope that a perfectly whittled walking stick is just sitting by the side of the trail for you, or you could just bring the Black Diamond Trail Sport 2 Trekking Poles and be sure that you'll get a little extra support during those steep climbs and rock-strewn descents. Black Diamond built these beauties with a durable two-piece aluminum shaft, so you can collapse them down and throw them on your pack when you need your hands free on those more exposed sections of trail, and added an extended rubber grip so you can choke up on them when you're climbing or traversing.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just used these on a weekend backpacking trip and was really thankful to have them. They were great for stream crossings, downhills, and we ended up having to hike out in the dark, so I was super glad to have them when my feet and mind got tired and clumsy. I'm looking forward to using them on a 5 day trip next week. For the pretty reasonable price you've got a super reliable product and not that much added weight in my opinion. Then again I'm not a thru hiker, otherwise I might go lighter, but for everyday hikes and recreational backpacking they're great.

Can this be used for skiing possibly?

Hey Dawson! Thank you for your question. These poles would not be ideal for skiing as they do not come with powder baskets. If you are skiing anything other than hard pack then you would just sink. I will email you some other suggestions.

Is this a single pole or a pair? Pictures show 2... also weight in description is the weight of two... but item name says "pole"
