Great Pack...for me, downgrade from previous.
I think one of the pinnacle features of a good alpine pack is the ability to overstuff and keep the weather out. The last iteration of this pack with the long double collar was excellent for this and worked really well. This is a real bummer for me....but I'm a super die-hard alpine light fan so...maybe I'm just jaded. Great pack otherwise!

A solid pack for climbing and mountaineering
I've had this pack for 6 months and I've used it for many sport cragging days and two mountains (Adams South Spur + Rainier DC route). Everything on this pack works as intended. It fits my whole kit for an overnight climb, although I still need to get better at distributing weight properly for the heaviest loads. This pack does it all and shows few signs of wear.

Really nice
Excellent, versatile overnite pack. I only wish it had tool loops, at least one.

Time will tell
Speed 40, insinuates lightweight, which it absolutely is…but i am concerned that by lightening the weight, it might be a bit skimpy on the durability of the bottom, and out here in the PNW, we set stuff down on a lot of sharp lava rock…may save this pack for gentler trips.

Solid light-weight pack
This pack hits a nice balance between being light weight but also providing decent structure and load distribution. The amount of straps on the outside feels a little excessive if you're not strapping on axes, but I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point.

Haven't taken it out yet,
Haven't taken it out yet, but nice features. My Speed 55 pack is about 10 years old and still in good shape.

Solid alpine pack
Buying this to replace my backpacking pack for some upcoming PNW climbs. Fits well on my frame and the cinches and straps are simple and effective. Tool attachments are fine, rope carry is fine, and the fabric is bombproof.

Worth the wait
I had been waiting to update my climbing day pack but nothing fitted my requirements until the Speed 40 came along. I wanted something big enough for ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies and short backpacking trips, yet be adjustable enough for small loads. It had to accommodate ice tools easily. It needed to be hardy enough for climbing and scrambling on granite (the downfall of my last pack). This is an extremely versatile pack, in the short time I've had it I've used it for ice climbing, backpacking in Patagonia and snow-kiting. I love it!

Upgrade over the previous version
I bought a Speed 40 early 2021 and used it about 40 times. It served me well. Light, comfortable and roomy enough for a full day. But there are a few things that bugged me: 1. The fabric on the belt came out from under the stitching quite early, a minor thing but annoying. 2. Not as waterproof as other packs 3. No good way to attach snow pickets or tracking poles and I lost a pole as a result. A small pouch below the side compression straps would be great. 4. The backing on the crampon patch delaminated completely 5. The attachment straps for the lid are too far apart and the lid slides over the back stays 6. Axe attachments is a bit awkward 7. The S/M size is just a bit tight for an overnight All that said I'm buying the 2022 Speed 50 which address all those points but for 1. and 3.
