Kinetic Core construction and women-specific design take the waist-pressure off on big wall climbs.

Black Diamond designed its lightweight Ethos Harness specifically for women so you can tackle some of the biggest, longest routes in total comfort. Its Kinetic Core construction consists of a durable nylon shell, a breathable 3D AirMesh lining, Vectran strands that evenly distribute your body's weight, and lightweight EVA foam inserts for added lumbar support that keeps you comfy on hanging belays. The Forged Speed Adjust buckle has a raised side rail that helps prevent abrasions from the webbing, an upturned baseplate that allows an easier lift for loosening, and a rear kick down on the top plate that eliminates any slippage while you climb.

The Ethos also features elasticized leg loops that softly secure your legs without the need of buckles, and you can either adjust or release the elastic rear riser for an ideal fit and optional drop-seat use. Four pressure-molded gear loops give you plenty of space for your cams and alpine draws, and its haul loop is rated at 12 kN in order to ensure you have everything you need to send the biggest, baddest routes out there.

Super comfy and light weight! I was really nervous about the fixed leg loops, but went for this harness anyway after trying it on. I normally wear a small in BD harnesses but they didn't have one in my size so I went for a medium and while the waist strap is at it's tightest point, it fits fine and will be good for wearing layers. I don't know how the leg loops would fit in the small, but the medium sized harness fits me perfectly in the legs. For reference I am a dress size 4. I love how small this harness packs down and the color is cute too! :)

    Great for trad or sport!

I purchased this harness as a gift for a friend, and here's what she had to say!
I love this harness, it is definitely the best harness I have ever had. It's very comfortable and I really like the gear loops; the front 2 are oversized and you really notice that when carrying a lot of
    cams and draws.

I am 5'4'' 130lbs and the small works great. When I'm in a t-shirt I have the waist tightened all the way, but it also fits fine with a jacket on for cold days. I have bigger thighs so I was a little nervous about the non-adjustable leg loops, but it worked out very nicely. The first couple days wearing the harness they were tight, but they loosened up over time and are super comfortable now.

I would definitely recommend this for any female crusher who wants a nice trad or sport climbing harness that is lightweight and comfortable!

    Are you:

-A skier chick with strong quads?
-Frequently racking up lots of cams and stoppers?
-No stranger to leg-numbing hanging belays?
-Suspicious of, but interested in fixed leg loops?
-Sick of harnesses cut for people without hips?

GET THE ETHOS. IT IS THE LIGHTEST, COMFIEST, NICEST TRAD/HIGH-MILEAGE HARNESS FOR ATHLETIC GALS EVER.

That is all. Climb on, sisters.

    Love this harness

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The ethos is awesome, super comfortable, the speed adjust waist is nice and the fixed leg loops are actually pretty versatile as far as thigh size goes.

My first harness was the BD Willow and it also had fixed leg loops but I wasn't super stoked on them because the elastic on them didn't provide enough stretch. The Ethos provides enough of a range that if I gain a few pounds during the winter I'll still have enough room :). That being said, I've got a small waist and pretty small thighs, if your waist and thighs differ largely I would go with adjustable leg loops.

The only complaint I have about this harness are the straps that connect the leg loops to the waist belt. My old harness had buckles connecting the straps to the waist belt, the ethos has small hooks that connect to small loops on the waist belt. This just means more time spent when you've got to go to the bathroom and don't want to take off your harness.

So far I've used it a few times in the Wasatch, Red Rocks and one weekend in Indian Creek and I could barely tell I had it on. The turquoise is cute too :)

Overall, best harness I've ever owned!

    Love this harness

    BD does it again!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So if you've read my review on the Primrose harness I love BD harnesses. The Ethos is by far has the best fit and comfort that I have seen so far. A lot of people are like "Jane, It doesn't have adjustable leg loops? won't the Leg loops slip and slide? and will they fit over my huge skier legs?" Well to answer that I say "Hey So-and-So You'll be fine! the leg loops are tight enough if you go off of the leg measurement rather than the waist. Also if you are on multi pitches you don't want to have some nasty buckles digging into your leg " If you prefer adjustable leg loops then I wouldn't recommend this harness but if you are looking for something for longer sends/multi-pitches then this is your harness. Not to mention the look of the harness is super Chic and not in your face bright color gal our.

To get into the more techincal side the belay loop is B-U-R-L-Y. That thing is not going anywhere. also the gear loops are super accessible and keep everything nice and organizes too. The Foam that they use as well is really comfy and breathable. I tend to stay dryer while climbing with this harness. Also the leg loops are so nice to just sit in as well so if I don't have a belay station I can just sit on it while belaying or fall on a route and not worry. I really encourage people to take a look and consider this harness. It's my favorite ever!

    Comfy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is by far the most comfortable harness I have ever owned. It fits great and great quality. I know this will last me a very long time. The waist band is shaped to fit very nicely around your hips. Love this

Since this harness doesn't have adjustable...

Since this harness doesn't have adjustable leg loops, what do those of us with small waists and big thighs do? I ordered a small, but I'm worried in the winter (I do rescue work year round) that it will be too snug over all my layers. My thigh measurement is at the top end of the medium, but my waist is at the end of the small. Thanks for any input!

I would definitely get something adjustable.
