Why We Like The Distance Z Trekking Pole
The Distance Z Trekking Pole is Black Diamond's value-packed trekking pole that doesn't slack. Its strong aluminum design is light, weighing well under a pound per pair. Breathable EVA grips and adjustable straps make it easy to clutch while ensuring it won't slide away if take a tumble. Plus, the Distance Z features the same collapsible design as the other Z-series poles—a button releases the sections for stowing, and an avy-probe pull grip slides it back together when we're ready to set off.

Excellent for Expedition Adventure Races
Used these in the trekking/hiking sections of Expedition Oregon Adventure Race. They did excellent on hiking up and down super steep hills both on and off of trails. The Z folding feature is perfect for fitting in your pack when you don’t need them. I’m 5’5” and the 110cm ones were perfect for me.

Awesome poles
Having the “z” fold up is so great, and it’s easy to deploy! Used them for the first time in a 50 mile race and really enjoyed them. I tried my friends carbon z’s and those were awesome too..

Light yet sturdy
Enjoying these a lot, have a nice balance and seem light without being fragile. An excellent tool for technical trail and long days.

Great for trail running
I’ve put these to the test on a couple challenging runs in the White Mountains of NH. They are great going up and down through all kinds of terrain especially in the rocky trails of the Whites. Super light weight. Easy to deploy and equally easy to attach to my pack on the move. My only criticism is the grips and the hand straps could use a bit more cushioning but not a deal breaker for me. Definitely recommend for those who like to fly through the mountains!

Love these poles
Took these poles on a three day backpack in the Ansel Adams Wilderness and they were great!

Really good for a short time
I've had two sets of poles that become almost impossible to fold or extend. They aren't super expensive, but if you have to buy a new pair each year...So disappointing.

Could BD add a whippet attachment
I really like how this pole fits in my pack when collapsed. And it's light weight. But I often have need of an ice axe for fall prevention. I could buy a whippet but then would lose the packability and light weight. This pole with a whippet handle and pick would be the perfect tool?

Great trekking poles
I decided to switch from carbon to aluminum poles for extra strength now that I am an older hiker. The aluminum Distance Z Trekking poles have been great in the 4 hikes since my purchase. They are stiff and almost as light as my older carbon Z poles. The interchangeable tips and the new locking button are upgrades from prior Black Diamond models. My only (slight) gripe is that there was no way to remove the straps without cutting them off.

Great poles
I feel a lot of people look over these poles because they are aluminum and not carbon fiber, but these poles are not to be looked over. The light weight and durability of the distance Z come at an affordable price, and I am not looking to break another pair of carbon fiber poles mid race. The distance z are ultra light and durable so that won’t happen again. Great but!
