The Fly Creek HV UL 3-Person Tent stays true to its ultralight appeal that minimalist backpackers love, but Big Agnes upgraded this model with a high-volume design for a roomier night's sleep. Unique to Fly Creek HV tents, DAC's Angle SF Hub works with the Featherlite pole system to provide 25% more head space and 10% more foot room. Apart from a higher volume, the Fly Creek HV UL Tent still features the same waterproof fly and floor, and mesh canopy to keep biting midges out.
The fly creates a dry space to protect your gear from wet weather, and it gives the door a dry entry so you don't dampen your sleeping bag. Big Agnes included eleven superlight stakes, three internal mesh pockets, and gear loft loops to accommodate the Big Agnes Triangle or Entertainment Center lofts (both sold separately). This tent is also compatible for a lighter fast fly setup with the fly, poles, and footprint (sold separately).

Light & compact
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
A great tent- lightweight, top quality materials and construction, with a high volume to weight ratio. I have used this tent in sheltered alpine campsites, the Northeast woods, and winter camping in below freezing temps. I would recommend purchasing the footprint to increase your tent's longevity and to give yourself the option of pitching it in fast pitch mode- just the fly and footprint with poles to reduce weight and packed size.
Only minor complaints would a tight but doable fit for 3 people and relatively lightweight materials that you need to treat with care. Otherwise, a fantastic option to go light with all of the conveniences of a full featured tent.
Easy, Light, but not for 3.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Just used this for 3 nights in the Whites with my brother. It was super easy to set up. And it is really light. But the weight comes at a price. Floor space and headroom. I cannot imagine fitting 3 people into this tent. I suppose you could fit three pads down but only if they were thin and the pads on the sides were literally against the wall. Which creates another problem. The ceiling actually angles in sharply from the sides so if you were up against the side of the tent, you would also be touching the ceiling for at least 6 inches in. Even as a two-man, when you would sit up, your head hits the ceiling unless you are in the center. Of course, I got the 3-man always intending to use it as a 2 since I am aware of the liberties tent manufacturers make with size. But I was disappointed overall in the space. Otherwise a very high quality product and so easy to set up.
Meet the new Fly Creek
This tent has been the go-to model for long-distance and ultralight backpackers for good reason--lightweight, relatively spacious, double wall, freestanding, weatherproof, durable, and world-class warranty. Big Agnes has taken the standard for ultralight backpacking and raised it to a whole new level.
Is this a true freestanding tent? The pic looks like it's still using a single pole center with guyed out rear sides.
This tent isn't fully free standing -- it's a Semi-freestanding style. For this tent, it means the tent itself will stand up on it's own but the fly needs set up the vestibule and it's guy lines. Let me know if you have any more questions!
