Long time owner

I've put it through the wringer

I've had this helmet for several years now and since I've fortunately not fallen on my head as of yet, this is strictly a comfort/fit/convenience review. I've got a 57cm melon with a narrow face and the medium is a perfect fit. The helmet is super comfortable in both functions. Once you change out the jaw bone a few times it becomes very easy to do without removing the helmet. I usually clip the chin protection to a strap on my pack if I'm going uphill, or if it's a longer easy section. I'm in San Diego and it gets hot on the trails in the summer, but the helmet is very breathable for having it's level of protection. Highly recommend if you're looking for one helmet to do it all.

Great helmet. Chose it over the Air R

I've used it several times

I got this helmet in a Medium and in a discontinued grey and hi-viz colorway (see my pics). My hat size is 7 3/8" and the medium fits TIGHT. Not so tight that it gives me a headache even after wearing it for over an hour; but I don't have to click the tightening wheel in the back very much and even the thinner cheekpads are pretty snug. I ordered the Super Air R at the same time but the chin bar on the Super DH felt much more solid. Although the Super Air R is as light and comfortable as all the reviews say. I could almost even forget I had it on. This isn't a cheap lid, but it feels really safe and secure. Plus the included GoPro mount attaches on really securely and I'm confident it would stay on through anything, except a crash of course.

Almost perfect but..

The versatility of this helmet is great. I love having a dh rated full face helmet to use on park days. Being able to pull the chin guard off and do regular rides is great. I love not having to worry about lugging 2 helmets with me on bike trips. The magnetic buckle is also a great feature. Now for the bad. Bell seems to have discontinued the replacement liner pads. I had a defect where the front flap of the liner detached and needed replacing. Since I couldn't find a new liner the great folks at Backcountry opted to replace the helmet for me. Thats great customer service!

Does what it needs to do

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have Troy Lee half, Fox full and now this Bell transition helmet. During the muddier sloppier PNW rides ive had a few spills but never wanted to schlepp a full face with me. This is the best of both. I only have about 9hrs in this helmet so far, but have been really pleased so far. I swapped out the cheek pads for the smaller pads and I am less schmoosh faced! I have a size small and wasnt thrilled with the first ride with the thicker pads, waaaaay better with the smaller pads. The helmet breaths well, but honestly it has been cold and wet on each ride I have done, so can not say how hot it will be in summer. I am not good putting the chin bar back on yet, so annoyingly I need to remove the helmet to put the bar on. It is a cinch to take off. But with cold fingers I have struggled a little getting the chin bar on. But the more I use it the more I will be familiar with it. For more aggressive DH riding I would still wear my full face. But this helmet is great for adding a bit of protection, especially on the days I ride alone. The cost does seem spendy but the helmet is really comfortable, feels sturdy and the features are great. Plus it is likes 2 helmets in one. **image is with the larger pads.

Second round

I've put it through the wringer

I'm on my second Super DH and have to say I really dig it. My first one endured everything from bike park shenanigans to smooth local flow trails and it was always comfortable, reasonably vented, and light enough for even four hour jaunts in the mountains. In fact, I hardly ever found myself removing the chin bar, other than Pisgah/DuPont climbs. The inner padding wore out after a couple years, but Bell sent me new ones for free, no questions asked (awesome). Only reason I'm on Super DH number two is a recent face plant and subsequent drag on wet roots and hard pack - the helmet held up just fine with zero cracks or external evidence of damage, even as the chin bar plowed dirt into my mouth, but figured it was a hard enough hit to take no chances. BTW, I tried a TLD Stage, too, to shake it up, but just didn't fit my noggin shape.
