    Wolverine Cirque Insulated Jacket

Part of Backcountry's touring collection, the Women's Wolverine Cirque Insulated Jacket was designed with input from Backcountry Gearheads looking for a solution to the backcountry skier's eternal struggle: staying warm without overheating. To solve the dilemma, the Wolverine Cirque features stretchy, super breathable panels at the back and underarm areas and 60 grams of synthetic insulation at the core, allowing moisture to escape while we're working hard on the steeps, but trapping in precious warmth during transitions on chilly summits. Besides being breathable, the stretch panels offer an unhindered range of motion that we appreciate as we're booting up the steep chutes of the jacket's namesake, Utah's own Wolverine Cirque.

Because fat snowflakes and gusting wind are inevitable in the mountains, the jacket's face fabric is water- and wind-resistant, meaning we don't have to stop to whip out our shells at the first sign of snow. A band of stretch fabric on the hem prevents the jacket from riding up underneath a pack, and the large hand pockets are strategically placed to remain accessible under a harness or pack waist belt. All the zipper pulls are easy to operate with gloves on for fumble-free adjustment, while low-profile fleece cuffs with engineered thumb holes keep the sleeves securely in place when it's time to throw on the Backcountry x Flylow Pfeifferhorn Jacket and descend via one of Wolverine Cirque's iconic chutes.

    Amazing Jacket!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: X-Large
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 195lbs

I have been agonizing for a while on what mid-layer day to day jacket I should purchase and I think I have found the perfect one! I have had a chance to wear for about a week or so and haven't wanted to take off, every morning for work I can layer this over really anything I choose to wear into the office. The stretchy panel on the back and armpits is genius, it stretches better than any another jacket of its type and is my favorite part about it. I typically wear XL in all my ski jackets and I stuck to that size and it is perfect for me. I like looser fitting jackets. Overall the best jacket choice I have made in a while.

    Perfect Mid Layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

This is half the price of a similar mid layer jacket from arcteryx, and I feel like there's 0 compromise. Its the perfect mid-layer jacket for a lift ski day or a great mid-weight jacket for wearing around. The sleeves are nice and long, and the fit is slender and super classy.

    Great layering piece

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

It is SO unbelievably hard to find an insulating piece for touring that is breathable enough where you don't end up soaking wet if you have to wear it on the skinner on a chilly day. I run really cold, and have to find the careful balance of staying warm without getting dangerously sweaty. I actually tested this jacket out UNDER my shell while skinning on a below-freezing morning and I'm definitely impressed with how well the breathable stretch panels at the back actually worked to keep me at a comfortable temperature while the insulated front kept my core warm. It fits really nicely in my pack, too, and is definitely something I'd always have on me for most of the conditions I'd encounter here in Utah.

The fit is slightly slimmer in the sleeves and body, which makes it fit really nicely under a more fitted shell. I have pretty broad shoulder and sometimes have to size up in jackets so they don't pinch me under my arms and in my shoulders, but I got away with a small in this, even with a baselayer and fleece underneath.
