    x G3 Alpinist Climbing Skin

Since Backcountry Gearheads get most of our skiing done in the backcountry before dawn (and before we need to be in the office), it only makes sense that they collaborated with G3 to create the Backcountry x G3 Alpinist Climbing Skins for effortless glide, solid traction, and an insanely secure attachment system—all with a topographic goat print that tags along for the ride. These skins feature self-aligning stainless steel tip connectors and a self-camming tail clip to make getting your skins on and keeping them there a quick process.

We made them with a glue that grips no matter the temperature, so you won't have to worry about sliding down the skintrack during freezing-cold dawn patrols, and also gave them a removable rip strip that makes it easier than ever to pull them apart. For improved glide and less grip, select a width that matches the narrowest point of your ski; for wall-to-wall coverage and improved grip, select a width that is slightly narrower than the widest point of your ski and trim the skin to match the shape of your ski.

    Great Skins

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins are solid. Great deal, super easy to cut and grip well. I also think the buckle is easier to adjust than other skins I've used.
One word of advice is to make sure you know the true length of the ski before picking the size. My 179 twin tips ended up being more like 184 in actuality when measuring them myself. I ended up needing to bump up a size larger than expected.

do what they’re supposed to do

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Backcountry x G3 skins do what they’re supposed to do. They stick well to the ski and last a long time if you take care of them. They also grip really well even on slick skin tracks and I’ve very rarely had issues with globbing (a few very warm days). My first pair started to unglue after about 30 days because I would put them on warm. Dry them and put them on a cold ski every time and you’ll get a lot more out of them. I’ve had several pairs and will keep buying them, especially at the price.

    Great skins

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

They do what they are meant to do! Easy to trim with the included tool. They are easy to get on and just as easy to peel off. The included bag is how I store them, although the draw string on mine was pretty gnarly out of the box so I might replace the string or the bag in the future. This doesn't effect my rating of the skins in my opinion.

Work as they should and easy setup

Skins were very easy to cut to size. The included tool made quick work of trimming the skins to the contour of the skis. I've used 3 times so far with no issues and don't foresee any either.

The reason for deducting a star is that the storage bag ripped along one of the seams after the first use.

      Love em

I love these skins, I've used them about 8 Days now in the Southern Wasatch, and they have treated me very well. Glide well and grip in all snow conditions that Ive experienced (packed skin track up Grizzly Gulch all the way too a 30 degree Ridgeline in the provo mountains)

In classic G3 fashion, trimming the skin took me about 5 minutes, super easy and intuitive (still read the directions though)

If your looking for a Nylon Climbing skin, look no further.

        Love em

        get the job done well

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are great, I am not a hardcore tourer but the dawn patrols and occasional day tours on these and I have nothing bad to say. They dry quick, and move well on the snow. The glue has been perfect. As long as you take care of your stuff, they are awesome.

        Can't Go Wrong

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

All-around great skins. Great glide and grip on steep sections. Slide on rare occasion on icy stretches, but nothing major. And, super easy to cut.

Great Skins for a great Price

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

For the price, these skins are entirely worth it! Great glide and great grip for uphill for uphill touring! Would always recommend these to a friend!

        Second Pair!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These skins are great. I had a pair that was a few years old and was very much showing their age, so decided to upgrade to these. Killer graphic on the base, and tons of gliding/grabbing ability for all snow conditions.

Have the ski and splitboard versions now

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought the backcountry skins initially for my splitboard , was so happy with them that I also bought them for my touring skis now that I’m trying to do both. Both have a great fit, grip and glide and have been very durable.

        Solid skin

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins are pretty good. I still slip going up really steep parts and either have to paralell up or switchback, but they generally do the job. They were also a little narrow for my ski (when I trimmed them I got less than 1mm off and only on the underfoot part), and I don't have a super wide ski (Rossignol Sky7, 168cm with 98mm underfoot), so I wish they were a little wider at the tip and tail. But they are easy to remove, fairly lightweight, and the print is cute!

        Love my Backcountry Skins

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins came highly recommended tome and they were right! I am so excited now to get out into the backcountry and these come with the kit and everything is so easy to use. Love them!

Great skins with a great design

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I’ve been using the Backcountry x G3 climbing skins this season and so far they are great! Love how easily they attach to your skis and provide excellent traction. The G3 trimmer is the best and makes cutting your skins to fit very easy, almost enjoyable!

        G3 Skins rock

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

G3 skins are synonymous with 2 things - Grip and ease to use. The glue is Goldilocks perfect. Not to stcky that you need to spend extra time in the gym lifting weights to pull them apart. Yet just sticky enough to do their job without fail. Coupled with the best tail clip in the industry and a easy cutting tool these skins just perform. recommended.

        Great design, slips a bit

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just tried these out last weekend for the first time. Easy to cut and super sticky so getting them on was simple. My only complaint is that in a few steeper uphill areas I found myself sliding. The skins did catch eventually, but only after sliding a bit first. I will update my review after I've had the chance to try them a few more times. However, I would still very much recommend these skins - especially for the price!

I have 159 sized Salomon lumen skis - the tip width is 132, mid is 99, tail is 114. I’m leaning towards ordering the small 130mm which is closer than the 140mm which I’ll need to trim. Just wanted to check to get professional opinion as I am new to backcountry skiing. Thanks!

Would the 183-189 length fit a 192 ski (i.e., is there enough tail to accommodate the extra 3 cm)? If not, is there a 192 option available?

        Hi there,
I've got the Rossignol Sky 7 HDs size 172. Dimensions are 118-98-128. Which size of skins do you recommend going with? Thinking the 130MM size medium but wanted to confirm.

Have a ski with a 99mm shovel, I can trim the 100mm skin no problem but will the clips that connect to the tip fit?

        Hey Jeremy,

The clips on the tips swivel to accommodate for different size/shape ski tips. Should fit your skis just fine but if they don't work out just give us a call and we'll sort you out. Can also test the tips before cutting as well.
