EXCELLENT. I BOUGHT THE 40L AND 60L. WATERPROOF,, HEAVY DUTY, STRONG ZIPPERS, HANDELS ON ALL SIDES, STURDY, HEAVY DUTY HANDLES, LOOPS ON THE OUTSIDE TO HAND STUFF ON. 40 L IS A GREAT GYM BAG, THE 60L ALLOWS FOR MORE GEAR, BOTH BAGS ARE WELL BALANCED.

Great Size for Gym
I got this bag as a present and it has been a great gym bag. It fits everything I need and on top of that it, it looks great.

Love it - originally had ordered the 60L but swapped for a 40L. Sturdy construction and material. Can't tell the difference b/t this and the NF base camp duffels that cost twice as much. Just received it so this is an initial review - but super impressed.

Loved the bag so much I bought one for my mother and then bought two more a while later. The 40L is a great gym bag. The waterproof side is perfect for dirty laundry. Zippers are hefty and the material is thick and durable.

I use this bag to keep all of my mountain bike gear ready to go at all times. I usually just leave it in my car. Fits my riding shoes, half-shell helmet, 2 pairs of knee pads, sunglasses case, and frame bag with extra room for spare parts, tools, snacks, and batteries. I really like the see-through mesh pockets on the inside flap for quickly locating my tire pressure gauge or hex keys.

Purchased the Backcountry All Around 40L Duffel (Neutral Gray) based upon a recommendation from my gearhead. The recommendation was an EXCELLENT choice, as this duffel is constructed very well, it is very robust and certainly several steps higher in quality, compared to other competitors of the same style of duffel. The dry bag area is a nice feature. I would rate this as a 5 star. ~Mike

Great duffel but not quite perfect

I ordered this duffel because it was water resistant--especially on the bottom--was the size I needed, and let's face it, it looks great. Among its better features are the grey "end cap" dry bag that has an expandable inside panel, letting you shift your clothes into a "dirty clothes basket" for much of your trip. I like duffels that have a single sling strap for carrying over one shoulder. Luckily, the backpack straps can be let-out far enough for one of them to serve this purpose. On the downside, and I hope Backcountry is reading this, the handle is awful! It uses a velcro closure (see picture) that is very difficult to close around the straps. It's a real pain, and it's not very comfortable either, especially with that stupid tab coming out of the middle of it. I seriously hate it and it's so pointless; hasn't good handle technology been around for 50+ years??? And although you have the option of removing these handles, it's not a long-term solution, as the 4 buckles hang down and are in the way (see picture). And no, you can't tuck them into the PALS, because they're not quite long enough to pass through. Another issue, though minor, is that the material will scruff and crease over time. Folding it to mail it caused some permanent creases in the exterior (see pic). Despite these issues, I'm still glad that I purchased the bag.

Small issues, yet worthwhile

Spent over a month traveling in Europe with just this bag. Compared it to the Eagle Creek 40L and this could fit far more, even though the EC is probably better build quality. Had enough for a weeks worth of clothing, 11" laptop, toiletries, and some charging cables. The ease of use and amount I could pack into this bag was terrific. Was able to buy a few track tops and shirts as well. Very easy to get in and out of overhead bin be it plane, train, or bus. Reasons for loss of a star: the straps tend to pinch at times, especially when washing your hands. The adjustment of the bag straps is very limited to bring it higher on your back, which make it uncomfortable after having it on your back for an extended period of time. Zipping the bag almost always takes 2 hands, which gets annoying at times. The waterproof pocket is a pouch that, if used, limits the space in the main compartment. I didn't have use for it and wouldn't give marks against it, worth noting. Overall, this is a really nice bag and will definitely be traveling plenty in the future.

Great quality materials and weather resistant zippers. I like the colors and rugged feel but wish there was a shoulder/chest strap. The backpack straps are cool but unlike similar bags they don't have a pocket to store them when not in use. You have to completely remove them if you don't want to have them be on the way of the main access pocket.
