Confident deceleration.
Avid created the top-loading Elixir Disc Brake Pads to pair specifically with its updated Elixir braking system for easy installation and removal along with increased stopping power compared to the Juicy 7 brakes.
You get two options when choosing your Elixir Brake Pads: Organic or Metallic. The Organic version is softer for quieter stopping and more modulation, while Metallic offers increased durability and better heat dissipation. If you're riding in the rain and mud a lot, we recommend Metallic for the best braking in wet conditions.

Just what I needed!
My bike was squealing and making some weird noises. This brake pad did the trick and now I can stop without turning heads.

Locking power
I accidentally contaminated my old pads and needed something that could lock my rear wheel hard for pedal kicking. I tested these on the first day and they did the trick. solid stopping power.

Go with the OM parts to take care of your brakes. These are always reliable and dependable. One question i run into is the difference between organic and metallic pads: Metallic pads are made up of hardened metallic ingredients, which are bound together with pressure and temperature. These pads will be better if you are a heavier rider. These pads are recommended for riding in wet, muddy, or dusty conditions. They are also a lot better if you are running small rotors, or are on a long descend. Although they are more noisy, and do not have as much of an initial bite as organic pads, you will definitely notice the increased performance at the end of your run. Organic pads pads are made up of fibers and organic material that are bonded together with resin. These pads are for lighter weight riders, and riding where lots of brakes are not required, like cross country, and riding in flatter areas .When running these pads with smaller rotors, they will "manage" the heat better, meaning your oil is less likely to boil, which would cause a loss of power. Another great thing about resin pads is that they are much quieter, I know I hate brake squeal, and I'm sure you do too. One big disadvantage of these pads is that they wear out quicker, which means more replacing, and potentially more brake bleeds. Also don't run these pads when it is muddy, wet, or even very dusty conditions. It is suggested that if you are running these pads, you occasionally sand the surface, to remove the glaze.

OE Pads are the best pads
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I always use Avid pads for any Avid/Sram brakes. There are several aftermarket brands available, however, the stock pads seem to always work the best. As a heavier rider I generally prefer the Metallic pads as they seem to have less initial bite but have more power once you really start riding.

pump the brakes

these brakes will stop you at high rates of speed if you apply them! metallic will last substantially longer than the organics but will be a little bit louder. to be honest though brakes are pointless. go ham out there!

2nd set!
- Familiarity:

These are great pads, I usually go for the metallic since I am pretty rough on my brakes and occasionally ride through creeks and mud. This is the 2nd time I have ordered these and will continue until I get my hands on a better bike!

Pretty dang happy overall.
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Really good stopping power. Glad I went with these vs. the cheaper versions...it's worth the extra little bit of money. The organic is a bit thicker than I expected, so be sure to factor that in. Takes a few rides for the initial brake noise to go away. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Less noise, for sure
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Less noise, people say you lose some stopping power with Organic pads but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. All I wanted them to be is less noisy and that they were not 100% but good enough for me.

They are quite and they bite pretty hard. They have lasted long enough for me to be satisfied. I found the metallics a little loud for my liking

Do these pads come with the bolt and safety...
Do these pads come with the bolt and safety clip. I have messed up, lost the clip and somehow managed to round the top of the bolt. Can you suggest a good quality torx set?
Padraic B.

This will come with the spring and bolt, as pictured. For a good quality torx wrench set, take a look at Pedro's L Torx Set (Item # PED000P). It is a great set with loose wrenches to allow better purchase on your bolt to prevent it from stripping.
