Why We Like The Atomic Backland UL Helmet
The Atomic Backland UL Helmet is not only the lightest in the Backland touring range, but it's also multi-norm certified for climbing and cycling, as well as skiing, to help us stay fast, light, and safe in all the activities we love. Atomic focused its design on protection and comfort with less weight—and it shows.
The Backland UL employs a durable Hybrid EPP in-mold shell with Holocore and AMID beneath to cut weight while also providing us with up to 40% higher impact protection than industry safety standards. Plus, we appreciate that the lightweight liner fabric is ideal for both winter tours and summer bike rides and is made from recycled material for eco-friendly comfort.

tasty treat
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Super easy to adjust size to fit with or without a hat, which is really nice for touring. The lack of ear flaps makes it pack down nice for carrying it on your pack for the uphill. The only thing I didn't like it it could use just a little bit more padding on the top of the head, but wearing even a super thin hat gets rid of the issue. It was a great helmet for 2 uses, then my dog plucked it off the gear shelf and ate it. I liked it enough that I bought a replacement. For sizing comparison, the 59-63cm fits me similar to my Smith extra large helmet.
