Great traction and support but durability…

These shoes are almost perfect but as other reviews have noted, the durability leaves much to be desired. After one use on a backpacking/fishing trip, the top mesh has a hole and the rubber over the left big toe has started coming off the shoe. Even so, the support and traction are terrific. I was looking for a cross functional shoe that works well in and out of water and these fit the bill. If only they had the durability of Astral’s Loyaks then we’d really have something here.

Best Astrals yet

The heel cup on TR1s provide a very secure and comfortable fit for everyday use on dirt, asphalt, or water. I’ve put a ton of miles on these, from North Carolina rivers to Paris museums. They’re super lightweight, have more grip and cushion than Brewers, and dry fast. I still like my Brewers for kayaking, but reach for the TR1s almost everyday.

Durability Questioned

I hate having to do this but it’s a reoccurring issue I have with Astral shoes. I’m a whitewater/wilderness guide in the Gunnison Gorge and do trips in the Glenwood Canyon. Me and other coworkers have bought Astral but now we’re leaning off them. I bought the green version of these Shoes last year in June…. I didn’t even get a full year of use before the mesh started ripping fall of last year making the shoe useless. Very unfortunate considering everything else with the shoe is practically perfect… I will say they are very comfortable and hold up extremely well on wet rocks but obviously they gotta be durable too especially for the price. Someone recommended the Danner Rivercomber might have to give those a try

Circling back to buy again

I work and play in Haywood Co in the Pigeon most days of the week and this shoe has been with me for two years, just now showing a tear or two. I'm circling back to buy another pair. I tried on many shoes over the years to find the right fit (size-able toe box, level offset, etc) and love that Astral is local, focuses on these things, and caters to those who play and work in the water. Highly recommend.

Astral shoe review

My wife and I were in the Osa Peninsula for two weeks. It is the start of the rainy season there and the ground is pretty slippery. The soles of the Astral shoes gripped better on the slippery ground than my regular hiking shoes which slipped alot. I really appreciated how safe I felt walking and hiking with the Astral shoes. Plus I wore them when walking from shore to the boat that took us to sundry places.

Amazing Travel Shoe

Outstanding trail shoe. Used these hiking a very mossy stone trail from 1700s Japan and I was the only one in my group not sliding around. I’ve traveled the world with this shoe - it’s light, dries quick, and looks good. Will definitely buy another pair when they finally give out.

Great shoes, but the mesh durability is an issue.

I really loved these shoes, but the mesh on the sides wore out in less than a year. It's a real shame, because they are such well-designed, good looking, and functional shoes. If Astral can figure out a way to reinforce the mesh with more durable materials, they will really be on to something. I hate when a shoe is perfectly intact and then has to be given away or thrown away because of one little defect...definitely not sustainable for the earth, customers, or the company long-term.

Amphibious holes at the heel please

I wouldn’t recommend astrals water running shoes for a hike that has a lot of sand. Because the holes for the water were at the tip of the shoe, and the trail was sandy, sand collected in the shoe. Finding amphibious shoes with the holes at the heel would be the way to go
