Porter Water Shoe

The Astral Porter Women's Water Shoe looks like a classic boat shoe but performs like a high-tech explorer, which might be confusing at first. Should you wear it to work? Should you wear it on the water? Around town? The answer, simply enough, is yes. The tough Cordura nylon upper is decked out with Airmesh at the tongue and vamp for ventilation and drainage, and has drainage ports at midfoot so you don't feel like you're walking around in puddles all day.

The laces run all the way around the heel for security, and the EVA midsole provides loads of cushioning for day-long adventures. To keep you upright on rocking decks and slick rocks, the Porter is finished off with a G15 high-friction rubber sole, which has tons of surface area for increased friction and razor-siping for unbeatable traction.

Sizing is completely wrong

I returned this product before using it
Runs large
Size Bought
8 and 7.5

I wear an 8 in just about every brand. Ordered these in an 8 and they were HUGE. Returned and ordered a 7.5. Also HUGE. Now I'm out the cost of two pairs of shoes until BackCountry receives my returns. And I'm not even sure a 7 would work. Definitely size down, wayyyyy down. Astral apparently doesn't know how to size shoes at all. Couldn't be more disappointed with a purchase.

I've used it several times

I am loving this shoe. I almost always wear a 9.5 and found these true to size. I bought them for an upcoming trip to Hawaii and thought I’d wear once or twice before I leave. In fact, I can’t seem to not wear these shoes several times a week. When I first purchased they felt like the fabric was a little rough. But they’ve worn in nicely without pain. The one issue was doing a five-mile walk without socks when the shoe was new gave me hotspots and a big old blister. But I think now that they’re broken in I’d be fine. I regularly do 2-3 mile walks in them. I have a narrow foot with very narrow heels, and I like the way they tighten around my whole ankle when I lace them; for me they don’t rub at all. Only thing to note is they make an odd farty squeak occasionally when I walk.

Ankle Rubbers

I've put it through the wringer

These are fashionable kayaking shoes, that is all. They look great, but the toe box is huge! These shoes work well for what they are intended for, leisure kayaking. Don't be like me and expect to do some serious backcountry hiking in them which included some waterfall rappels. I gave a 4 of 5 despite the blisters because the grip on the bottom was great when walking in the river, and even gave decent traction while rappelling. Just don't walk any long distances in these shoes and you might love them.

Love the shoe, runs huge!

Seems well made, but runs way too big. I wear size 9 in most shoes, sometimes 8.5, but I'm exchaging for an 8

Rubs my ankle

I love my Loyaks. They are crazy comfortable, so I expected the same from the Porter. Sadly, I was wrong. The back of the shoe would rub my ankle raw within 10 minutes of wearing them. I am returning them. I love the style and they seem to be made really well. I would just highly suggest that they soften the back.

Astral Porter

A great classic sailing style of shoe for the rivers, lakes or oceans. Fun out of the water too! Leta Astral Rep

I compared the Brewess, the Loyak, and the Porter all from Astral. All have super grippy soles as you might expect. The Brewess was the stiffest and the Loyak the softest. The Porter fell in the middle and ultimately I was debating between keeping the Porter and the Loyak, but the Loyak ended up winning out purely for the extra slipper-like comfort. If I was a shoe hoarder I would have kept the Porters, too, though, so don't let my final decision sway you if you dig the looks and function of these. I normally wear a 9.5 street shoe, and these were a perfect fit in a 9.5.
