Why We Like The Altra Timp Hiker
With more hikers choosing trail running shoes, Altra added an ankle collar to its cushy Timp trail runner to create the Timp Hiker. This mid-cut reduces our need for a gaiter to seal out mud, snow, and trail debris while letting us enjoy Altra's trifecta of zero drop/balanced cushioning, a gender-specific fit, and a Footshape Fit with extra room in the toe box to let them splay out naturally. With a 29mm stack height, the Timp is a high-cushion hiker that's designed to help us stride more naturally on our hikes or winter trail runs.

I want my money back.
I just finished my first hike in these shoes. Did 8 miles in the white mountains. The boots are practically destroyed. The toe tip is peeling off. A big chunk is missing from the sole. Junk.

Grand Canyon and Northern Georgia Tested
Bought these as soon as they came out for a busy summer. My first adventure was a Grand Canyon Rim-2-Rim hike in July. 24+ miles in one day. These were fantastic. Perfect in the extreme heat and dried relatively quickly after a few stream crossings. I then wore these on a 24 hour (42 mile) hike through the mountains of north Georgia. Very hot and humid, and again no issues with discomfort or blisters. Even after wading through several streams. I have over 100 miles in these and my feet were not a factor and I never thought about my shoes.

Odd Shape
Not sure what footstape these are supposed to be but they are nothing like the way my past Altra shoes have fit. Latest set I have is the lone peak and these are way too narrow and long. Sending back.

Love Timp Hiker boots
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 14
Was a Solomon 4d user, too heavy and needed bandaids often. Switched to Altria 7, but not enough support and too soft at front of shoe. These Timps are awesome. Not too heavy and relatively good overall fit. I love the wide toe box and overall feel. I bought 2 pairs of these and one using Gore for wet conditions. The shoelaces on my size 14 were too short, but I switched out to longer. Love these boots.

I would not only buy again but also buy a different model!!
They are light with great ankle support, perfectly cushioned, you can feel it at every step. I have put around 30 mile on them an going to Colorado for some real trail with high altitude

Pleasantly Surprised
Spent the week in Zion. Timp hikers were very good. We put on over 50 miles of hiking and I have no complaints. I could use a bit more cushion for my feet, but happy with the purchase.

Great shoe
I've been wearing Lone Peaks for a long time, and the Timp is even a step up from those other early models. Though I've had surgery on both feet and can't wear a lot of other hikers, these are comfortable in all aspects. Lightweight, not too hot, good toe room, great look, quick to dry. They seem sturdy so far. Two small complaints - wish the tongue was gusseted to keep debris out, and would like a swatch of heel velcro for gaiters. But those are minor issues. I will be buying a second pair to keep on the shelf until next year or whenever these wear out. Highly recommend.

YES! This is the one!
This hiking shoe is so smooth. The weight of the shoe is so light which is exactly what I need with ankle issues. I went half a step up because I wear ankle braces that fit comfortably inside the shoe. I usually wear an 11 in Altra but got 11.5 to accommodate the ankle supports. The high top hides most of my ankle support which is nice. I highly recommend this shoe for those that are challenged physically by their feet with some mobility issues. For me it means I can enjoy more pain-fee hikes and walks around the city/country.

This is the one for me!
I think Altra has finally "nailed it" with this hiker. I have been wearing various Alta lone peaks for years and most (not all) of them were pretty good. Now that I am getting older my feet need a little more cushioning when hiking .These Timp hikers are the perfect answer. I only have about 20 miles on these but I have found the toe box to be roomy, the heel secure ,extra padding welcome and the new sole quite good. Time will tell about durability. positive- The sole is noticeably grippier than the lone peaks...I think it is a good improvement overall. Fit and cushioning. Secure fit with roomy toe box. neutral- Feel is still there but slightly less than Lone Peaks. negative- No gator trap and loop. Why not put this on the hikers Altra !? ...I miss it!
