Why We Like The Solstice XT 2 Shoe

Made to go from the gym to the trail the Altra Running Solstice XT 2 Shoe is a on-stop-shop for all-day adventures. We use this shoe when out hitting the weights in the morning and going on a quick hike in the evening. The shoe is made with stiffer materials to hold up to unpredictable terrain while still keeping the same gym-ready shape that's comfortable on our feet.

Transitioning to the zero drop world has been a true blessing. I picked these up expressly for pickleball and find myself wanting to wear them for more. I have very wide feet that are also high volume. When I first put these on, I noticed that the toe box is just wide enough to allow my toes about 90% of the max freedom required, acceptable. I also noted that the tongue doesn’t quite cover the top of my foot to either side. This is a bit of a disappointment, but like I side, I have very high volume feet. That being said, as long as I am extremely deliberate in lacing and tying, I have had no issues. As for the durability that some are mentioning, only time will tell.

I used to run in the previous version of Solstice. These ones can still be used for running but are my go-to gym/walking/general activity shoes. More durable than other Altra shoes, but definitely a bit heavier. I believe the closest running shoe to the old Solstice is now the Escalante Racer.

Uses; Normal gym use, and daily everyday use. (Not running) Good; Fits great , toe box is on par with other Altra's. Ive had more than a few pairs. Bad; Laces that came are way too short. I re-laced them with a set from another pair of Altra's and while being much longer I can now double knot them and not have them come untied. Durability, well the left shoe is starting to fray on the inside, it will probably tear soon. All that being said I'll probably get another set as they are a little lower key than my Metcons. I can wear them out and about and they don't scream gym dork when you look at them.
