Before the sun wakes, we're laced in Altra's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Boot and on the trail. The grooved midsole boosts flexibility, giving us a smooth rolling stride, while Altra's TrailClaw lugs give us solid traction to push off of. As the path turns to singletrack and dew-heavy brush rains on each step, the impervious membrane keeps our feet dry.

Very comfortable, waterproofing doesn't last long
The outer materials seem a lot more durable than other Altras and they have lasted longer than all the Altras i've ever owned (i've probably been in 20 pairs). But, the waterproofing started failing after only a few months. This year, now that the weather has been wetter, i've pulled these back out. My first shallow puddle crossing and they are soaked inside. So, while they don't start peeling as fast as most Altras, the waterproofing is rendered useless very quickly.

Falling apart after light use
Less than 10 light hikes in these and the sole is already peeling. Pull tab, which appears to be bar-tacked, but is actually only glued, has also pulled out. I'd love these if not for the QC issues.

great shoe but...
The four times I have worn this shoe felt amazing. Water proof for those rainy days walking to the office, keeps your feet dry and warm. Comfy sometimes can feel like walking or air and barely to not at all feel the rocks beneath your feet when hiking. These are the only shoes that didn't make my feet feel like they were in a vice. BUT, all the times I wore them hiking I used hiking rated socks at different levels or cushion with a liner sock AND without and received blisters on both achilles/heels, on paved paths and on hiking trails. Results of which cost me a hike up Mt Elbert. If I wear zero Cushing socks, running sock, I get absolutely no blisters. Cannot tell if this issue because my shoes are too small or too large. I want to really love and rely on these shoes. Just hate these blisters.

Olympus 5
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

Decided to go for it after reading the mixed reviews. Ordered a half size larger than my normal size, but they were still about a half size to small. Luckily, my shoe repairman could “stretch” them to fit nicely. Many reviews complain about ankle rub or pinching from the grommets. As long as they’re laced properly and not tied too tightly, they don’t pinch at all. One of the best shoes I’ve ever owned!

Yes
They are comforting, like all of my Altra shoes. Just took a little breaking in.

Great feel but they don't last long
Love these boots, I have them in tan/orange and in blue/white. After 7 months of splitting miles between the two, they are both shredded. I use these as my go to for wildlife photography. No running. The various layers are separating and the heels are coming unglued. One pair is no longer water resistant.

Wide & Flat Feet Clouds!!!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Purchased these because I have wide and flat feet which can be very hard to find good hiking shoes that stay comfy for long hikes without breaking in. These are the best hiking shoes I’ve purchased by far. Water resistant for walking through snow/creeks is perfect. Wide toe box that give ultimate comfort. Genuinely felt like I was walking on a cloud through the Rocky Mountains as I hiked! I wear an 8.5 and got a sz 9 and they fit great with thin and thick socks.

I will Buy this Product Again
These hikers make my feet sing. I have been wearing these all winter long through snow and ice. I am now wearing them on wet, back roads, through the woods, and muddy trails and streams. No need to jump puddles. The shoes were uncomfortable around my ankles at first, but that went away after a few miles. My only hope is that more traditional hiking boot colors will be offered in the future. Life literally would not be the same for me without these Altra's because of my bunions and arthritic feet. Thank you Altra!

Just what I needed
After a couple QC hiccups with my past two pairs of altras I took a chance on these and I'm very pleased. I take long hikes in marshy areas and needed something comfy, supportive and waterproof and these are it.
