Fly over technical trails with the Mont Blanc Carbon, featuring a carbon plate, plush midsole, and Vibram® grip

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This is my go-to trail racing shoe when I want to move fast over technical terrain. The Carbitex™ carbon plate gives me an extra burst of propulsion, and the Altra EGO™ MAX and EGO™ PRO midsole balance cushioning with responsiveness. The Vibram® Megagrip outsole is super sticky on rocky or wet trails, and the roomy toe box lets my feet spread naturally. Whether I’m pushing for a PR or tackling a long day in the mountains, these shoes keep me light, stable, and confident on the trail."

Speed meets stability in the Mont Blanc Carbon, Altra’s fastest trail shoe to date. Designed for technical terrain, ultra distances, and all-day mountain adventures, this high-performance trail runner blends cutting-edge materials with signature Altra comfort. The full-length Carbitex™ Monoflex carbon plate enhances propulsion while maintaining flexibility, so we can power up climbs and float over rugged descents.

The dual-density midsole features Altra EGO™ MAX in the rim for plush comfort and Altra EGO™ PRO in the core for race-day performance. A Vibram® Megagrip outsole with Litebase technology keeps weight to a minimum while delivering outstanding grip on wet or dry surfaces. The ultra-light, breathable mesh upper ensures comfort mile after mile, and the zero-drop design promotes a natural stride. Whether we're toeing the line at a trail race or heading out for an all-day adventure, the Mont Blanc Carbon is built to go the distance.

Incredible Shoes with a Great Design

These shoes are great, they boost speed and jumping power considerably. I run in these constantly and have yet to have an issue with the sole. These shoes have also granted me added endurance for all sorts of activities. They are incredibly light; it almost feels like you're walking on the beach in your bare feet (just not as sandy.)

Bell Ringer of a Shoe!

From the very first run I immediately noticed the the return on the force applied to the ground, meaning there is a noticeable springiness upon lifting the foot following a foot strike. The foot support along with the comfort is very nice. Unlike other reviews I have not experienced any issues with keeping my foot secure and in place within the shoe. The reduced weight relative to the Altra Olympus 4's that I have been using for three years is definitely apparent and appreciated on long runs, which I believe can contribute to greater safety consequent to potentially striking obstacles such as stones and roots when one's legs are tired and stiff, thereby making it more difficult to lift one's legs to clear obstacles. Certainly a shoe I would recommend for technical trails, whether for training or racing. My only cautionary note I would offer to prospective buyers is that due to the colors (orange and white) discoloration is unavoidable, despite thorough cleanings, especially if running on dusty trails mixed with water crossings or even sweat accumulation from socks. Though, this does not diminish my five star review of this shoe and yes, I would buy them again, even at the hefty price.

Wanted to like them

Really wanted to like these. Tried lacing them several different ways to lock in my heel. Finally gave up after lacing them up so tight it was painful. What a bummer to drop that much on a pair of shoes that just won't work.

High expectations, disappointed with the product

It is an excellent shoe for fast races. On technical trails, with high elevation and steep descents, you feel like you're on high-heeled shoes. The stability is not good at all and it makes your movement cumbersome. But for fast races and trails that don't have technical sections they are excellent. They are light but the materials they are made of are not durable. After only 50 miles of running they look tired.

Favorite trail racing shoe but....

This is my favorite trail racing shoe but there is one major issue that carried over from the regular Mont Blanc, the outsole still peels off from the midsole. Altra please consider making a one piece outsole, and this shoe would be golden.

Love these shoes, so much comfort yet light, rigid, balanced

I love these shoes. I'm not a hardcore trail runner, light trail and road work. I think these are great, they feel stable on rough terrain and are extremely comfortable.

Not the best upper

Similar to my vanish carbon 2 review, these are great but the upper is shoddy; tongue came apart at seams. Came apart after one run and I had to use shoe glue. Otherwise terrific on gravel and trails.

They did it

I took the chance on this shoe despite mixed reviews. Firstly, the step in feel is amazing. I was worried about the lower stack height but the midsole felt cushioned and extremely comfortable. The shoe is speedy It feels legitimately fast and seems comparable to the best super trail shoes on the market. The heel is indeed low and a little loose, but a runners loop locked everything done for me. As a note, the Mont Blanc BOA worked flawlessly for me. This shoe feels much faster. It isn't super wide, but it is still anatomical, which was plenty for my large forefoot. It definitely FEELS very 0 drop.

Misses the mark on my local terrain

I keep trying to like Altra trail running shoes. I've had 4 pairs over the years. Very comfortable but the tread could not provide sufficient traction in my local Idaho mountains. Ditto the Mont Blancs

For sure!!!

Pulled these right out of the box and ran a trail 1/2 marathon. They are super stable, great grip under the foot and for a carbon shoe didn't need much break in time. They are also super light.
