Why We Like The Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 Hiking Boot

The mid-cut version of Altra's legendary Lone Peak, the Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 is made for winter trail runs and foul weather hikes. The weather is no longer an excuse to stay inside with its over-the-ankle protection and water-resistant bootie to seal out snow, rain, and mud. The MaxTrax outsoles give us all-terrain grip while the all-weather construction gives us a trail shoe for all four seasons.

Would not buy this product again.

Had LP5s a few years back with wide fit and lasted. Wore these hiking Petra for 11 miles, I have peroneal tendonitis and a stress fracture. Shoe is breaking. No support compared to old models.

Order up two sizes

Says it uses the original foot shape. That's a lie. Go up by 2 sizes from the original version. The addition thinly padded squares of steel to stab your ankles is a nice touch.

YEs

We love Altra. My son loves them however they do not last long for him. Do you recommend an option that will be more hardy. He does a lot of walking and some running

I would buy this product again.

I bought several pairs of these boots while they were on sale. I am always surprised by the negative reviews I sometimes see about these boots. They are supportive, lightweight and comfortable.

Pleasant surprises

I love Altra sneakers so much, it's all I wear. I bought a pair of out roads in November. I'm now on my fifth pair. I wanted something waterproof. I have search high and low for a pair of Olympus in my size but no like. I like the ergo cushioning. I felt like I was compromising with the lone peak. After walking all over the French Quarter in a constant downpour of rain. I'm completely happy with my purchase. I still want a pair of Olympus though!

Hikes like a water balloon

Pros: The most comfortable hiking shoe I've tried, very light too. Wide toe box is perfect for my foot shape. No blisters after hours of steep up and down hiking. Cons: The comfort doesn't last because of the one way faucet that this fabric is. Absolutely drinks water. Chugs it. Lets no sweat or moisture out either. Wet grass will leave your foot soaked, let alone a wet trail. A hot day will also leave your foot soaked, these do not breathe. If you're prone to hot feet, hot weather will make these feel like two little pots of boiling soup on your feet. Hot or wet weather will bring on the trench foot or blisters. Pretty sad since they fit so well, and since the non-waterproof version is some weird hipster taproom boot that looks like a walk to the mailbox would blow it out.

Great fit, sole needs improved

I love the fit, the toe box, the neutral feel, all wonderful; but now that I've been hiking in these for 6 months, the rocky terrain of the PA AT, I feel every rock I step on, please improve the sole

Great fit but terrible durability

First let me preface and say that I love the fit of Altras. However the durability is terrible. I've had these boots for a month of on trail light hiking and they have developed holes on flex point.

Worked them hard, they deliverex

I work for a government agency maintaining trails. Instead of work boots I use the lone peak all weather mid. 3-7 miles a day plus physical labor and they've lasted for 6 months in Alaska, and still going. Obviously, not good for really heavy work (I bring steel toe boots with me), but these perform by keeping my feet comfortable and dry as I get to the work site and home. Great for all day, light work on a dry day

Boots Need a Redesign

I've owned numerous Altras racing Ironman races etc. I bought a pair year ago to hike 3, 5,000 ft peaks back East in the White Mountains, a 14'er home in CO, some other hiking, and snow days. Unlike, the 2* ratings, I waxed mine with Fajallraven wax, so it took a while to get wet back East gully hiking, but Mt. Missouri tore them up, edges started to peel, and they do not grip rock well and slide on water soaked rock. I would consider these light hiker's for dirt with some scree. I bought HANWAGs from the local Fajallraven store in Yak leather & looking at the MAKRA LIGHT GTX.
