When collecting miles, we lace up with the Xodus Ultra 2 Trail Running Shoe. Equipped with a plush stack of Saucony's pebax-based superfoam, this shoe's platform is lighter, hardier, and bouncier than standard EVA-based midsoles, softening the ground while propelling us into new personal bests. Through the ups and downs of the trail, the 3-piece outsole adapts to the terrain for more ground contact, and its multi-directional lugs chew up the earth, delivering solid strikes and powerful toe offs with every stride.

Faulty shoe
This is my second pair of these shoes. I bought the identical shoes, to my first pair, because I loved them so much. I wore out the soles on the first pair. There is something faulty with the right shoe in the replacement pair. It squeaks and makes a sticking sound, so that I and other people notice it. Seems like a defective shoe.

The grip we want and the cushion we need.
I bought this about a month ago and have been running woodland trails and some hard pack or road as well in them. I have been a huge fan of the peregrines for years, but have reached the age where for long miles I need some cushion, regardless of the running surface. Everything I found was either cushioned or had the grip, never both. I was slowly running fewer trail miles, and being very sad. These Xodus are a game changer. Super grippy even when caught out on a rocky trail in a rainstorm, and cushioned enough that I can run forever if I want to.

Quality of shoe inside and outside.
Quality o materials made a blister on my foot and on the outside I had to glue the undersole.

Smaller than their predecessor
I have a pair of the original Xodus Ultras that I LOVE and they have taken a beating, so I figured it was time for a new pair. Unfortunately, these don't fit like my first pair. After my first hike in these my toes were so sore from jamming into the front of the shoe, an issue I never had with my previous pair. I'm not sure if the whole shoe is smaller, or if they just decided to trim down the toe box, but it is super disappointing. Here's hoping that they'll eventually pack out. =/

Solid shoe, terrible traction: 3.5 stars
Overall I really love this shoe, but there are a few significant shortcomings. Overall the shoe feels incredibly comfortable, with a great deal of flexibility for a trail runner. It feels more like a road shoe, which I love. It's very lightweight, and feels easy for long trail technical trail runs. I have a significant bunion on my right foot, which limits my big toe mobility. These shoes give me space to comfortably splay my toes, and don't aggrevate my bunion toe at all. Huge win. However there are two significant shortcomings which *almost* have me looking to try a competing brand. The main issue I have is that the outsole is not at all grippy on wet rocks. Like... at all. I am located in the north east and all of the trails around here are incredibly rocky. Running on wet rock in these in nearly impossible. You just slide all over the place. I've previous worn the Brooks Caldera. I hated almost everything about that shoe, except for the fact that the outsoles were SO grippy. You weren't going anywhere. Pair that with the fact that the lacing system in these makes it almost impossible to keep the laces really tight, and you have a true technical trail challenge. Saucony if you fix those two things you'll have me screaming about these shoes from the rooftops!

My go to running and exercise shoe came thru with a great light weight trail hiking shoe. The toe box is a bit narrow, so consider sizing up for long runs or hikes.

Perfect for hiking
Bought these shoes specifically for a hiking trip in Arizona. Could not be happier. They are very comfortable even after 10+ miles! Traction is excellent and got me over some very slippery bare rock faces on the trails. Highly recommend!
