    My Favorite Front Tire

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I live and ride in Utah, but have traveled to BC and the PNW on this tire and I haven't found a tire that I like better. The braking power and side knobs are great in almost any riding condition. I pair this tire with a DHR2 in the back when riding loose or steep terrain and with an Aggressor when trail riding. Overall, this is my go-to tire up front.

    Great front tire - liking the WT

    I've been a fan of the DHF tire for years, and now that I have a bike with 30mm internal rims, I wanted to check out the new Maxxis DHF WT 2.5. After about 100 miles on it, I'm very pleased with the performance - it definitely appears to setup better on the rim and doesn't feel as though it's creating any more rolling resistance. The DHF is a great option for riders who like a solid tire up front when the trail tilts down - it's great in a wide range of conditions as well. I have this tire on the front of my Yeti SB4.5c and am running a 2.3 Maxxis Aggressor on the rear.

    Favorite Front Tire!!!!

    I have tried a variety of front tires. I ride with 30mm internal width rims. I love the way the Wide Trail version of this tire has better coverage with the tread, the regular version has a channel next to the side treads that runs across the whole tire, kind of a dead spot; the WT version doesn't and that is what makes it stand out to me.

    Growler of a Grip

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    I currently run an Evil Following MB that came with a 2.3 version of the DHF on front and DHR on back. I felt like I was velcro'd (not glued) to the trail though the tyres seemed to let go of the turn before I wanted them to. I upgraded to the 2.5 version of the DHF on the front and...oh...man. It just hugs the trail in the right way throughout the turn and though it takes a bit more lean to start the turn with a 2.3 on the back you can still get used to it.
    Please keep in mind that this added a tiny bit of weight to my front wheel and it lessened my rolling resistance a bit. I run higher PSIs, around 25-28 depending, and sometimes I needed to remind myself to pedal liek enduro does and then I wouldn't bonk as much on climbs (cue the me being out of shape jokes).
    In all seriousness, the DHF in this width is silly good on descents with the Magic Mary from Schwalbe being the only comparison. Definitely recommend for aggressive trail, enduro and all-mountain riding.

    Low PSI Grip

    I partnered this with a High Roller in the rear and have loved the combination. The wider tire upfront allows you to run lower pressure, which gives you a lot of grip in the loose dirt - much appreciated in dry Utah.

    My Go To Front Tire

    New bike came with different tires. I couldn't trust them in a corner. Upgraded to the Minion and I'm diving into corners again. Ran the tire on my hard tail last year and it lasted good and was only limited by my skills. Make sure to go with the 3C/EXO or for harder conditions Double Down. Cut down side walls suck.

    2.5 = Traction

    I had been running the same tire in 27.5 version on my Santa Cruz Nomad with great success. So when I got a Hightower LT it was only natural that I'd try out the 2.5 DHF as my front tire. Oddly enough Santa Cruz stocks a DHR front and rear on the Hightower LT. Which provides tons of braking power, but not the cornering stability I wanted.
    With the DHF in a 2.5 I find myself pushing the front wheel into corners that I normally would not. I am so impressed with the traction through corners! You would expect this from a wide trail tire with sticky rubber, and it delivers. This is the only front tire for me!

    generally I run a DHR II as a rear tire. Around Salt Lake conditions are usually alot of loose over hard, and traction deteriorates as the summer goes on.
    For lift served riding I recently tried the Assegai and was very impressed with the traction it provides, very heavy however.

    Looks like the specs are off - the actual weight listed is 300g lighter than the claimed weight.
