Heckler MX Carbon GX Eagle AXS E-Bike

The latest iteration of the Heckler MX Carbon GX Eagle AXS e-Bike is all about exploration. It's about finding our own way in the trail-ridden wilderness and navigating the steepest trails we can find. And, we choose the Heckler MX specifically for its quicker cornering and composure when the trails take a sharp downward turn.

This Heckler MX features a larger 720Wh battery than its previous model for improved range so we can ride on without limits for as long as we like. Santa Cruz's previous 630Wh may have been lighter weight, but the tradeoff is the ability to get out and seriously adventure with more power for the rider. With the addition of a flip-chip, riders are able to adjust geometry and shock leverage rate to be dialed in for any rider in all conditions. We also appreciate that the Heckler MX is now compatible with coil shocks for riders wanting to add the plush consistency of a coil. It comes in both mixed-wheel and 29-inch configurations, with this MX bike utilizing a 29er front wheel that steamrolls over obstacles, and a 27.5in rear wheel for precise cornering and maneuverability. We also appreciate that the bike is compatible with the Universal Derailleur Hanger standard to simplify finding replacements if we bend one out on a bike trip.

Santa Cruz utilizes 150mm of renowned VPP suspension that has been tuned precisely for use with e-MTB. It's ideal for big trails and big days, and it works in conjunction with 160mm travel fork up front. This provides the support needed for rugged riding, and the maneuvering necessary for descending. Shimano's EP8 motor lets us focus entirely on the ride at hand without any distractions popping up. Be it grueling climbs or steep, deep descents, this motor has the power to carry us through unimpeded. It's quiet and compact, and it delivers 20% more cruising range for our ride. Plus, less pedaling drag improves our ride feel overall.

In terms of geometry, the Heckler is built to offer generous reach and wheelbase figures to keep us stable at speed, and a slack 64.5-degree head tube for confidence as we drop into steep terrain, making it ideal for aggressive trail and enduro riding. Last, we'd like to draw attention to Santa Cruz's C carbon frame, which offers the strength and stiffness we desire without making many sacrifices for weight.
