Great Pack, not a Dana ... but what is.

Solid little pack. Suspension is worthy of a dense heavy load for a 40L. Cons - lack of daisy chain or easy external attachment points. *Dana G. - bring back the Bomb Pack! Pros - Will carry a small dense heavy load well. I can fit a 60m rope, sport rack, harness, shoes, first aid/ten essentials, food, water and a layer nicely. External pockets are fantastic for 1 liter bottles, rain gear etc. Suspension is two thick wire stays. Great crag pack. It was between this and the Bridger 45 ... went this way cause the Bridgers Yoke/Shoulder Harness is just too "Triathlon" for me. I'd would be 5 Stars if it had places to clip biners externally (smelly shoes, brain Bucket) aka Daisy Chain.

The perfect pack

I was looking for the “Goldilocks” pack for some summer mountain day hiking & the Mystery Ranch Coulee 40L Backpack was it. Not super large, not too small, this pack is just right. The Coulee 40L Backpack has its own pouch for a water bladder & plenty of room for everything else you need for long day hikes. You can purchase a frame size that fits you & the pack can be adjusted for the perfect fit. Plenty of pockets for all kinds of gear & easy access pouches for the things you want to keep close. I got one for my wife & she loves it too. No complaints here…it’s a great Mystery Ranch pack!

Great Bag, though.....

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My initial impression was very good. It's a quality item. But, at 200 dollars, for a backpack, it really ought to be. I filled it with about 25 Lbs, worth of stuff and went for a walk. The only issue I've found, and that others have reported is the fit of the plastic back plate. For me, the plate dug into the base of my neck, without the plastic the fit was excellent. The bag itself, the zippers, the pockets, the stitching, the padding, the fiberglass frame rods and their supports in the bag, the compression straps and their velcro keepers, the design and execution of the waist support and the design and execution of the back support and shoulder harness element are all excellent. This is one of the finest bags I've ever owned at this price point. Admittedly I've not owned many 200+ dollar bags. 100 dollar bags I've been though plenty, none as designed and voluminous as this one. The triple zipper is genius, it's the reason I bought the bag other than the Mystery Ranch reputation. Coworkers have been using their bags for many years, and until recently, my old bag was just fine, but then, disaster involving an excavator and an errant rock led to it's untimely demise. An excuse was born, and a bag purchased. Now, onto the plastic plate situation. What I did was heat the plastic over a burner, gently, until I was able to soften it slightly and bent it to the desired profile, then ran it under cold water to freeze the new shape. worked like a charm, went for a walk again with the weight on and I didn't feel a thing, not even the weight in the bag. This is a very good bag. It also holds to your body, so if you have to move around quickly or just feel nimble, this bag will help you do that. My only real complaint is, the loop in the bag which is apparently made to hang a bladder from, it won;t fit around a 3 Liter camelback milspec (the long green one) widemouth, I was looking forward to that feature, cause it is real nice to hang the sack in the bag. BUT, the loop is still there and it has a nice toggle, I will be improvising a hanger onto that one. Lastly, I bought the lizard color scheme. I love very much the color of the bag. the zip pulls and shock cord though, not so much. I replaced the neon green/yellow with olive drab paracord and all is right with the...world? who am I kidding the planet's a mess........
