Mountain Hardwear's Compressor Hooded Jacket packs down small—like down—with synthetic insulation that's more tolerant of moisture than down. That makes the compressor a low-risk pick for cold and damp environments and for layering under a shell when we may be sweating on the crag or trail. We also like the body-mapped insulation—with more insulation around our core and less around our underarms to moderate our temperature and moisture when we're active in our cold-weather pursuits.

Not great, not terrible.
I was really excited for this to be my winter coat. Got it, put it right on, looked in the mirror and went hmm. I'm 5'10, 170# and the med fit just right zip-up wise ... but it wears a bit boxy, is not slimming at all, and every time I move, you can hear me crinkling from a mile away. I dunno. Going to sit on it, maybe wear it out skiing a day and see. May re-sell it and look for something else. Jackets are important, given living at 10k feet in elevation I wear them for a lot of the year. We'll see. I've been a mountain hardwear almost 20 years, the first time I've had a "meh" experience. Oh- and the sleeves run a bit short. But that's coming from a tall girl. Anyone shorter and they'd fit perfectly

Great jacket
I recently purchased this and was out on a blustery day without a hat. The hood worked perfectly and kept me warm.

Chose the men's version
I am only commenting on fit as I just bought this jacket and haven't had a chance to test it out much yet. I figured this might help someone thinking about ordering online without having tried the jacket on. I am a 135 lbs female that is 5' 4.5" tall. I typically wear a women's medium comfortably. My local store had this in a women's small and large. The small was way too tight for me to get any layers under and was very restrictive in the shoulders (I have broad shoulders). The large was huge and ballooned out at the waist, but was still restrictive in the shoulders. I tried on the men's small and was really happy with the fit! Usually men's jackets have arms that are too long and waists that are too tight, but not this time! The arms are the perfect length for me (I have a +3 ape index, but they would be fine on someone with shorter arms) and the waist isn't too tight. I can't say that I have slim hips either, I usually wear around a size 6 pants. I think the women's version would work well for someone who is curvy and has slim shoulders. If you are a more athletic build, try the men's!
