Best boot ever
- Familiarity:

I bought this boot in July in anticipation of my three week trip to the Dolomites in September. I have just returned. My wife and I averaged 6 miles a day and every day the boot actually felt better. Never experienced anything like that before.normally feet get tired of the same boot and I alternate but not these. I’m 66 and hiked all my life. Just a great boot.

Great Boot at a Great Price

I bought a pair of these to use for light hiker’s/backup boots for spring turkey season. After reading the reviews, I upsized a 1/2 size and recommended and chose not to order a wide as I’ve got narrow feet, and running narrow was the most negative things I had read about these. They are perfect. The fit was absolutely spot on, they’re extremely lightweight and what I thought were going to be used for my backup boot have since been moved to the only boot I’ve worn all season. Highly recommend

Lightweight support for rugged trails
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 46
I bought these as an alternative to the superb Salomon GTX4 boots that I've had for a few years. I wanted something a little lighter for occasions when I'm not carrying much (e.g. less than 35 lbs +). These La Sportiva boots seem to be just the ticket, but I can't speak to durability yet. The little hooks at the top make me uneasy... but we shall see. Speaking of laces, I wish they came with thicker laces; the included set is scrawny, but they work. The fit is good for me; I usually wear a 46 (in my everyday Ecco footwear of all sorts and the boots mentioned), so that's what I ordered despite some reviews warning that these run small. I do think they are a tad shorter and narrower than the Salomon GTX4, but they fit my feet well, and the smaller interior volume is compatible with my foot shape. I wear them with Smart wool (vintage, not the newer crummier kind) and other wool blend hiking socks. (The size label inside these boots say 12.5 US, but there's no way they are that big. 12 at most, in the opinion of this US resident.) The sole is kind of interesting, because it seems to be pierced. Rather than just the traditional lugs/pokey bits like in a Vibram or what-have-you, this La Sportiva sole also features small lugs that are captive in the holes pierced in the outsole. They flex a good bit, and smaller debris can get caught in the space between these lugs and the holes containing them. I've not tromped through water with them yet, so don't know if that design quirk might be problematic for keeping feet dry. (I hope not!!) During break-in, the synthetic upper rearmost sleeve rubbed my achilles area to the point that it got sore, but that soreness and the rubbing disappeared after 20 miles of break-in hiking. I like these boots enough to contemplate bringing them along with the Salomon's on an upcoming trip to Switzerland, and deal with the extra space they will need in my luggage. For hikes without a pack, I think they would be first choice.

Slightly different from synthetic versio

I had the SYNTHETIC version for the last year. Used them almost everyday for all types of terrain. Hiking trails, rock scrambling, gnarly climbing approaches, dog walks, roofing jobs, etc. Love them. When one of our foster puppies chewed up the ankle support area I figured I'd order the leather version and give them a shot. They are not the same feeling and perform differently than the synthetic. Mainly the ankle support is a bit stiffer, which I don't prefer. May be better for some. They are also roomier or just slightly larger than the synthetic version. Which for a thicker socks going into winter will be good but they don't have the honed snug feeling the synthetic versions have for me. The leather are great just slightly different. Was going to exchange them but decided to keep them since they are warmer and it's going into winter. Hope that helps

Perfect lightweight boot for slim feet
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is my 3rd pair of La Sportiva shoes/boots and I absolutely love them. I typically need to run 1/2 size smaller than most other brands but sizing has been consistent across all 3 pairs. I only have 1 hike in these so far so I cannot comment on longevity but they feel almost as light as my trail runners. I'm mostly a day hiker who runs light and only carries what can fit in pockets and these have been the perfect shoe for my application.

Service. Backcountry’s service is really good. My initial order was too small and complicated by my ineptitude. Throughout the process, at each obstacle I threw up, the Backcountry team immediately found an answer. Normally, when things don’t go my way I move on. Fortunately, with the Backcountry team issues are resolved so quickly and seamlessly it’s hard to believe the problem ever occurred. If you want quality technical gear, rest assured Backcountry will ensure you have the right product for your needs. Talk to their Gearheads, they don’t disappoint.

All around great hiking shoe

Yes, both men's and women's versions run small, but the men's run a smidge small whereas the women's version runs really small. The men's Ultra Raptor II mid leather GTX fits my foot like a hugging slipper. I wear a 9 in other boots, bought a 9, and yes they hug my feet, but they aren't uncomfortable or poking, which is the important thing. Being a leather upper, I find that a snug slipper feeling is good because the leather will stretch. Out of the box, they are extremely comfortable and light. I like the integrated heel gaiter which helps if you don't want to fuss with a regular gaiter in the summer. the soles are sticky, very sticky. No hot spots and no issues. Glad La Sportiva came out with leather upper version.

EXTREMELY TIGHT AND SMALL
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- 11.5

I purchased these boots in us size 11.5, I normally wear us size 10.5 wanted to try a bigger boot. These boots are extremely narrow, and my toes were touching the front! I would have loved them to fit! they would be excellent if you can get a size that fits! With the return charge for shipping, I will no longer be purchasing from Backcountry.
