This is a well made, well taylored, smat-looking jacket. Five stars for looks. Five stars for function. A reluctant four stars for performance only because it couldn't tick all boxes in a Midwestern thunderstorm on an 86-degree morning. The jacket kept me dry, but i found myself wishing that the hood was a bit larger. A larger hood would have been worth an additional ounce. The jacket is well ventilated, but unfortunately, in a Midwestern thunderstorm, it still manages to hold in humidity while keeping out rain. Even with pit zips wide open, I couldn't escape the steamed in parchment feeling. The coat amplified the heat and concentrated the humidity. Not a lot, but it was non-optimal. I'd highly recommend this shell for cooler coastal climates, but a more billowy design would probably be better for tropical storms.
