Why We Like The Crown2 60L Backpack

From overnighters to multi-day treks, the Granite Gear Crown2 Backpack treats us to a lighter feeling no matter the adventure. At 2lb 8oz, the Crown2 doesn't hold us back much, and if we need to make the pack even lighter, the top bucket and internal frame sheet are removable, so it's possible to get the backpack down to 1lb 11oz. And for those who repeatedly have trouble finding a pack that fits, Granite Gear's Re-Fit hip belt easily adjusts to various body sizes, so the pack's hip belt can still cinch down to fit your body if we drop ten pounds hiking the AT.

The best pack I own

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
5' 9"

I own a couple of Osprey and Kelty packs and they each have elements I really appreciate, but this pack is by far the best in own and my go to pack for any hikes that are 2 nights or longer. The adjustability of the torso and waste belt ensure I get the perfect fit. It’s extremely light weight. Pockets in all the right places. I am 5’9” female and I’ve used it when I’ve been between 160-180 lbs. For a woman, I really appreciate that this pack adjusts to where I’m at in my fitness/activity level. Law school kicked my butt and I gained some library weight, this pack didn’t mind at all. I gain weight in my chest and hips, this pack adjusts perfectly. One of my favorite aspects is the weight distribution options. I can really pack this thing to fit my needs. I prefer my pack to be a bit top heavy when I am heavier, and bottom heavy when I’m more fit. Super large side pockets are very handy for carrying water and bring the weight lower than if I have it in the bladder. This pack is also perfect for carrying my bear canister (I prefer the canister to the bear bags, it doubles as a seat and keeps my jet boil safe and dry). The canister slides right in like the pack was meant for it. I bought my daughter the same pack and she’s had good success with it too. She’s 5’10 and 160lbs and super athletically built. We’re both moderately busty. I’ve also loaned her pack to my little brother when we did a backpacking trip in Oregon. He’s 5’11 and 165. He was impressed as well. I recommend this pack to anyone who will listen. It’s not as “trendy” or “cute” or “stylish” as some of my other packs. It doesn’t have the same brand recognition as an Osprey. What I have decided though, is that for a day trip you can afford to sacrifice a little comfort for style, but if you want to get into more serious backpacking, listen to your body and go with the pack that offers long term support, comfort, durability, and versatility. One other point, this pack might seem too big, too much pack, for a shorter trip, but it adjust nicely to smaller loads without sacrificing the utility. I think it’s best for the 40l-60l range, but I’ve used it for less without any trouble.

Backpacked with it on a 10 day trip

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
5' 10"

The pack was able to carry 40lbs if balanced correctly. The only pain was it has no separate bottom compartment for pulling things out without totally unpacking.

Versatile Pack

I've used it several times

This pack is lightweight and has lots of room for all your needs. It does everything you need it to and has many options for carrying items. It also feels comfortable to wear all day.

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Large long
5' 10"

I have only used twice for day trips... to test out for a longer overnight. There isn't anything flawed about the pack, but I'm far from wowed. It doesn't have any secure or zipped pockets inside for things like car keys and identification. It does have pockets around the waist, but I am in and out of them too frequently to want to risk losing my keys or id. Also there are lots of thin straps kind of dangling all over the place. It just seems a little flimsy and the straps tighten and loosen almost too easily. The side pockets for water bottles or other items are secured by thin straps and not by a pull cord that can be cinched that I'm used to... not my preference I guess. I didn't pay full price for this and if I had I would return it. Again, it really is a preference thing for me. Maybe where it lacks (for me) may be made up for in durability. I read the reviews and was super excited to receive this pack. So far it has fallen a bit short of my expectations. I'll update my review once I have had some more hikes with the backpack

Lightweight Backpack

I've used it several times
Size Bought:
5' 2"

I've used this pack on two backpacking trips now, and I love this pack. As a petite person , I love the variety of sizes this pack comes in (I got the Short) and the adjustable hip belt. The side pockets are great - large, elastic and adjustable, and I can reach my water bottle with the pack on (which is surprisingly not always the case with a lot of packs). I like the stretchy large front pocket too. The hip belt pockets can fit a phone, but I still wish they were a bit bigger. I can fit two snacks in one pocket and my phone in the other, but it does require some jamming it in. It has a really good volume size (60L) and feels really sturdy with a BV450, tent, sleeping setup, clothes, food and water (total weight was about 26 lb). I haven't tried it in the upper weight capacity (I think they say max 35 lbs), and intend to try to keep my pack weight in the 20-28 lb range anyway. Compared to
