Why We Like The Flylow Smythe Bib Pant

Weekend traffic, crowded lift lines, icy slopes—you don't want any part of all that. For those that would rather wander than be told where to go there's the Flylow Smythe Bib. Designed to give you performance movement, total weather protection, and breathability all in a lightweight package, these bibs were made for long days spent hunting for dream lines in the backcountry. The Intuitive Perm fabric is stretchy and air-permeable to get you through steep and grueling bootpacks, and offers waterproof protection for days you wish you brought a snorkel. You've got lots of convenient storage for even the most intense backcountry excursions, with three pack-strap compatible chest pockets, and two thigh pockets that are accessible with a harness on. Outer thigh vents let you quickly release heat when you reach the summit, and heavy-duty Cordura reinforcements around the ankles ensure durability after long seasons of alpine adventures.

Baggy fit, true to size, nice features,

Medium

Taken out only one day so far, but very happy with the build and features. Plenty of zips/ventilation and pockets. Material is light and airy. Im shorter and a bit stocky in the torso with a 30 in inseam and a 32 waist, and mediums are perfect. A touch tight on the torso, and a touch long in street shoes, but with my build and my short inseam I expect it. Still very comfy. I returned the large because they were huge. I Do NOT recommend sizing down as others had suggested.

Fantastic bib, I put it through the wringer this year as I learned how to ski. The bib is impervious to moisture on ski lifts and durable enough to survive a multitude of 60+ mph falls onto icy piste without any tears. I went with the advice of other reviewers and bought a size up and I’d agree that it was the right choice.

I own both the Baker and Smythe bib. While the baker is a beefier and heavier bib, I prefer the Smythe bib for anything besides a cold resort day where the Bakers seem better suited. Smythe is a more breathable and thinner layer. Holding these two bibs in each hand, the Smythe is noticeably more lightweight. Great for skinning with a beacon pocket on the chest. I never get hot in these and they feel great with a good range of motion. I’m not entirely sure on the durability as I’ve only tested them out on 5 skins. As others have said, I would size up. I’m 5’9” 190 lbs with larger thighs and upper body. The large fits me perfect. The Baker is a solid bib for backcountry too but if you run hot and looking to shave ounces, then this is your bib.

I just got back from my first AK heli trip and these bibs performed really well! Hopping in and out of the shuttle to/from the lodge plus climbing in and out the heli, they held up to everything. The only thing missing on these bibs are inner thigh vents. I'm 5'7" / 180# and the large fits quite comfortably. Hoping to get 10 years out of these like I did with my last pair of Flylows.

As much as I love the freeride style of skiing, I?m still a ?I don?t want my ski kit to be too baggy? kinda guy. I suppose that comes from my years of ski mountaineering and alpine ice climbing where I climb best in trimmer clothes. So, I wanted a bib that would be that, be light and breathable enough for touring and climbing, yet burly enough for getting after it on the descents. And looks stylish doing it?especially if doing inbounds days at the resort. This is that bib! Granted, wanting all that comes with the risk of being potentially easier to tear. I?ve been a diehard Patagonia, BD, and Arcturus fan for 20 years. So, this is my first Flylow purchase and I?m totally sold. They fit perfect for me. But 37 days I them last season and they still look like new. Stoked I got them.

Like most ski pants, these are too baggy. Haven?t found a high quality pair of ski/board pants that long enough with out being enormous.
