Why We Like The Whirlibird IV Interchange Hooded 3-in-1 Jacket

We love to take the Columbia Whirlibird IV Interchange Hooded 3-in-1 Jacket out on chilly shoulder season hikes as well as winter ski sessions. We zip out the insulated liner when we only need the Omni-Tech waterproof protection for rainy warm-weather strolls, and then zip the liner back in when winter rolls around and we hit the slopes for a day of skiing with friends.

We love how the inner jacket's Omni-Tech thermal reflective lining uses silver dots to reflect your body heat back to you, adding an extra dose of defense between you and the frozen mountains. It's also water-resistant to shed light rain if you take the inner jacket on autumn camping trips. The active fit makes sure you can move freely in the Whirlibird, and a drop-tail hem enhances your coverage from the wet world.

Love This Jacket!

I like to try different gear to figure out what I like best, and I love this jacket. I mostly use it for skiing but it also works as a regular jacket and I've taken it ice climbing. I love that the shell zips off from the puffer, it's three jackets in one! The quality is great and I love the color. It's not bulky even though it has that puffy layer which I love.

One of my favorite jackets, ever

I love this jacket. It is very cute, very warm, very versatile, very comfortable and lightweight, and very well made (high quality). Couldn't really ask for anything more. Oh, and the colors are gorgeous! I'm 5'2", 125lb, 36A with broad shoulders and wear this jacket in XS.

Love the interchange feature

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love. Wish more colors were available in my size. 5'2" about 145# and medium fit great. Inner jacket is lightweight and very warm. Outer jacket is a bit big but not to where it's a problem.

Whirlybird kacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s an excellent jacket. The only thing wrong is that the seam for the arms makes it kind of tight around your under arm area

Excellent and Versatile Jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Warm with excellent wind and water resistance. The jacket is stylish and versatile with zip-out liner if you just need a weather shell or a lighter jacket. Highly recommend.

Disappointed

Loved the jacket. But unfortunately too small across the shoulders. Everywhere else fit great.

Love that the non-waterproof layer looks cute

I am happy with this jacket. With previous 3-in-1 jackets I've tried, I felt that the non-waterproof layer often looks bad when worn by itself. With this jacket, however, the non-waterproof underneath layer looks really cute on its own! Makes the cost feel more worth it because I will wear that layer on its own nearly daily, when I don't need the waterproof part. Fit: I am 5'8" 220lbs and ordered an XXL. I am usually an XL (but sometimes a double X). I erred on sizing up so I could layer underneath. I would describe it as true-to-size. If I didn't have a bulky fleece to wear underneath to ski, the XL would have been a perfect fit. The XXL is a tad large when worn without my bulky fleece underneath, but not so much that it looks silly. Re: 3-in-1 function, the two layers of the jacket go together really easily - not a pain at all to add or remove the inner/outer layers from each other. Re appearance: I didn't LOVE any of the color choices (almost removed a star but, in the end, decided that didn't matter much. I am happy enough with the midnight blue like color). As far as warmth, we've been having a warm winter here in AZ (30s and above) so I can vouch that it's been warm enough for that, but haven't tested it on our frigid Michigan ski trip yet! However, can confirm it has kept me dry in the snow/rain/grapple/slush. It has reflective on the inside of the inside layer which should also help warmth. I suppose I wish it was real down, but I don't even really know why.

Great coat that keeps me warm!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this coat. I normally wear 2X but I ordered a 3X and love the size it is. It allows more room for multiple layers and doesn't make me feel like the kid from A Christmas Story. The colors are great and it has kept me warm on walks that are in the teens. I normally don't use the hoods on my jackets, but I have been zipping it up all the way and using the hood and it keeps my neck and ears warm. I would definitely buy this coat again.
