    Sturdy shelter for alpine adventures.

Common convention has it that lightweight tents sacrifice strength, while solidly built tents gain strength and security at the cost of pack-busting weight. Not here—the Big Agnes Shield 2 Person 4-Season Tent combines the best of lightweight, easy-packing bliss with the sturdy structure required for alpine missions and far-flung expeditions in every season. This tent is a great choice if you're setting up base camp at high altitudes where even summer months bring a wide variety of inclement conditions. In fact, the 3-layer waterproof/breathable membrane, fully taped seams, and PU-coated floor ensure maximum protection from oncoming squalls, soaking-wet ground, and snowy campsites.

Although single-wall tents are best known for their warmth and sturdiness in wintertime and shoulder seasons, the Shield's electrospun nanofibers actively pull moisture off the inner tent walls for increased breathability (rated at 3000 g/m²) on stifling summer evenings. Going one step further for breathability, fly vents disperse condensation build-up as you're sleeping soundly.

The secret to its lightweight, yet surprisingly robust structure lies within a single-wall design, complete with DAC Featherlite NSL poles for exceptional an strength-to-weight ratio. There's only one door, which is actually a good thing when barreling winds threaten to blow through your tent. Lightweight Mega X stakes and heavy duty guylines keep the tent firmly secured to the ground in heavy winds, and reflective webbing along the guylines prevents tripping in low light.

You can add an Accessory Vestibule from Big Agnes (not included) for protective storage of packs and gear. Four interior mesh pockets handily store extra gear and small accessories. Plus, there's the option for a variety of cool add-on lofts, ranging from Big Agnes' PowerCase for charging gadgets to the Wall Loft for harmonious gear organization (both sold separately).

    • Sturdy 4-season tent for alpine excursions
    • 3-layer waterproof/breathable membrane repels oncoming storms
    • Electrospun nanofiber coating reduces condensation build-up
    • Compact design sleeps two campers while reducing overall weight
    • Accessory Vestibule available separately for extra gear storage
    • Based out of Colorado's Rockies, Big Agnes creates legendary camping equipment

    Not a 4-season tent, doesn't cut it.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First, I have put this tent to the test in some high alpine environments, through good conditions, and heavy (summer) snowstorms. It does not perform in any conditions. The tent is incredibly heavy for its size and durability. The limited interior pockets tore after a couple uses and the wall material tore easily despite being careful with the tent. The tent does not breathe, so expect to wake up to a waterfall every morning. I would not consider this a 4-season tent, and would instead highly recommend going with a roomier and more versatile 3-season double-wall tent if you are considering this tent. Don't buy this.
