Not so comfortable
- Familiarity:

Wore these once and it wasn’t the comfortable experience that was expected after paying this much for trail runners. Returned them for Olympic 5 trail runners and I’m much happier.

Everything about the shoe is great, except for the heal.
Everything about the shoe is great, but the heal has zero padding and slips. I've looked at other Altra shoes and the heals have padding, so don't know how this was overlooked on this shoe. I have never had a blister in my life but can't use these shoes because the heal slips.

Just wore them for the TMB
I have had four pairs of Mont Blancs and decided to try the Boas to do the Tour du Mont Blanc. I trained in the Sierra mountains in one pair and saved my second pair for final training and the 140 miles of the TMB with about 30,000 feet of ascent and decent. Overall, I was very happy with the shoes. The adjustability is great. I easily dialed up to run descents, and generally down as I hike climbs. The Boa system was durable and totally reliable and has not missed a click in my roughly 600 miles in the two pairs I have. The grip is reliable, but like other Mont Blancs it can wear quickly. After my 140 miles on the TMB and about 50 miles training in my current pair already has well worn grip and I would consider changing it out soon. Regarding the shoe design I have two suggestions. First, I would like to see it be gaiter compatible like other Altra. I added my own adhesive velco so I could use my gaiter, and it did not work that well. Second, I would like to see Altra add a bit more padding in the Achilles, particularly on the inner side. Both the regular Mont Blancs have a more padded heel that feels well locked when laced. That level of padding when combined with the Boa system might be an improvement. I suspect this might have been a choice about weight. Overall nice fast pack and trail running shoe for me.

Well made, Didn't work for me, but....
Firstly, I didn't break these in properly before I ran my marathon in them. So keep that in mind. Pros: Stable Good traction Enough cushion Faster then my other shoes, decently so. The fastening system is great. Took several hard hits into roots etc and held up being filled with sand and mud. Cons: Arch was to a bit to high for my flat feet. Thin upper that doesn't offer protection from sticks and impacts. (Recomend gaiter) Heel is flat and you get slipping or feeling like it will slip out of the shoe Toe box isn't full sized.

Love these shoes but durability issues dissuade repurchase
Bought these on April 30th of this year. I've put a little over 80 miles on them since then and I already require a new pair, so I wouldn't recommend them based on durability alone. I absolutely love these shoes as it's great being able to quickly adjust fit depending on what my feet need. If you're not worried about the cost and having to repurchase relatively quickly, then go for it.

Solid all around shoe
A solidly performing shoe, with quick adjustment of fitting, roomy toebox, and fantastic traction. I ended up getting a few sore spots, on the Achilles and where the lower adjustment knobs sit, but overall, these can be worked around for endurance events and won't be an issue on sub 10 mile events.

LOVE the BOA system! Wish the vibram sole lasted longer!
My first pair of the Mont Blanc BOA fit great but was very quick to wear out on the forefoot lugs. I had less than 25% left after less than 100 miles. I run on desert trails in Phoenix so it is like running on sand paper but love the ease of adjustment and release of the BOA system. Altra engineers, would you consider using BOA on a model of trail running shoes with a more robust, longer lasting tread???

BOA system works well but serious durability issues
Usually I wait until 100 miles before I write a review but these shoes only made it until 80 miles before they started breaking down. The durability is not great. May be good shoes for 5K races.

Needs waterproof toe
The shoe is so comfortable and performs as I expected. The only down side is the toes get very wet. It could use a gortex toe tip
