As you start to graduate from mellow forest trails to steeper mountain climbs and longer peak-bagging missions you need your shoes to keep up with the increasing demands of the trail, and with the Altra King MT 2 Trail Running Shoe you'll have the durability and performance you need for the tough terrain and unfavorable conditions you'll find in the mountains. Its Vibram Megagrip outsole, now updated to be thinner and more lightweight than before, maintains the same steady traction in both wet and dry conditions, so even when sudden storms swing through you'll still be able to navigate roots and rocks with ease.
Plus, the outsole's also outfitted with 6mm lugs that really dig into soft and muddy trails, while updates to the drainage system ensure that rain and puddle water won't hang out in your shoes for long. Special lugs at the forefoot help you maintain a stronger toe-off in steep terrain, and the gaiter-compatible design helps prevent dirt, rocks, mud, and other trail debris from getting caught in your shoe and ruining your run. You've got all of that with the added benefits of Altra's intuitive design that focuses on a healthy running stride, so you'll have a more natural footfall and toe-off than you would with standard running shoes.

I miss this shoe so much
I've tried to find a replacement for this shoe for years in stack height and toe box with no success. The lower stack helped proprioception issues from EDS & velcro was helpful with swelling.

This shoe is perplexing!
I've owned about 12 different pairs of Altras. I love the Lone Peaks (I'm on my 6th pair), Escalantes, and Torins. So, I thought I'd try the Kings because they have a Vibram sole and I love the looks of them. The shoe fits narrower than all of the other models, but otherwise feels like a pretty good fit. I was shocked, however, at how short the laces and Velcro strap are. I can barely tie the laces and the Velcro strap only reaches the middle of my foot. If I pulled the Velcro strap any tighter it would hurt the top of my foot. This seems so strange, considering that I don't have a terribly wide foot and all of the other Altra models fit my foot perfectly. I do love the comfort and colors of the shoe, but the short laces and Velcro are very problematic for me.

Trail run rock stars!
I love these shoes. Traction is great for the muddy mountain trails. They fit my wide feet well!

Great shoe
Only negative was if you have a wide foot the velcro barely reaches. Look even better with black laces

I do buy Altra's again and again.
I buy these for work (toddler teacher) and play (tennis, paddle ball, working out, walking dogs). They are so comfortable and depending on the model, very supportive. I had been wearing negative heel shoes for years but that company stopped making athletic shoes. Very glad I found Altra to meet my needs. My single, but tremendously annoying gripe about Altra's for women is the "girly" colors. Please offer some gender neutral color choices!!

Good grip but runs small
I have several pairs of Altra running shoes in size 7.5 but the 7.5 in the King Mt 2 were way too small. I returned them and got an 8 but the 8 is a little large. Not sure why there is such a big difference between the 7.5 and 8. I did keep the size 8 because the shoes have a very nice grip on wet surfaces. I just need to make sure I wear thick socks and pull the velcro tight. Not sure if I will get another pair of these or not due to the size issue.

Comfortable straight out of the box!
I needed a shoe with good tread for hiking since my Solstices are too flat on the bottom and not grippy enough. I'm in PA and live really close to the Appalachian Trail so that's where I hike a lot. It is super rocky but these shoes were a pleasure to hike in the whole time. They offer great traction and foot stability. I love all my Altras!

I love these shoes.
I love the big toe box, they fit great, are super light weight. I will never buy a hiking shoe again that does not have a big toe box.
