A swept-back and ergonomic riser bar, progressive, upright geometry, hydraulic disc brakes, internally geared rear hub, and belt drive will all prevent the Acme from lining up at a ProTour race — but that doesn't mean this bike isn't fast. Spot uses its proprietary 7005 aluminum frame to give the Acme a distinctive and lively ride. It's shaped and butted (the tubing's thinner in the center), so the frame's light, stiff, and responsive, yet it will flex slightly over choppy pavement.
This adds comfort to the long haul, and so does the carbon fork. But, this isn't any old carbon fork — it has been optimized for the loads powerful disc brakes place on it. Traditional carbon forks can't handle the braking forces of modern hydraulic brakes, Avid Elixir 1's in this case, because the forces twist the fork, and pull the wheel out of the dropout … not exactly safe. Thanks to Spot's thoroughness you won't have to worry about a haphazard, unsafe ride.
Spot's attention to detail continues with the rest of the Acme's part specs. Most notable is Shimano's Alfine rear hub. This hub houses eleven gears, covering everything from a hill-climbing granny to a descent-blazing high ratio. The Alfine hub is highly regarded for its smooth operation and low maintenance. If you're of the 'set it and forget it' nature, you'll enjoy the Alfine's simple operation.
That freedom from constant servicing and tuning continues with the Acme's advanced Gates Carbon Drive system. Spot has been a leader in the advent of belt drives for duty on the bicycle. The belt is constructed from a carbon-reinforced polyurethane and has an incredibly long life span. Most appealing, though, is the independence from messy lubes and near-silent operation.
The Acme rolls on heavy duty 36 spoke wheels with Alex rims. You'll appreciate theses durable wheels if you plan on using the rack mounts and loading the Acme with panniers. WTB Ryder Elite tires offer secure traction on a variety of surfaces and they have a reflective strip for low-light safety. Finishing off the Acme build is a Spot Brand alloy stem, post, and handlebar with a WTB Street Smart Rocket V saddle.
The Spot Brand Acme Bike - Belt Drive is available in seven sizes from 42 to 62cm and in a Hand Polished aluminum finish.
