Why We Like The RC9 S-PHYRE Wide Cycling Shoe

Wider-footed fans of the glistening blue presence of the Shimano RC9 S-PHYRE at the front of the pack will appreciate the dedicated wide-version of what may likely become a legacy shoe. Perfect for a higher volume foot, the RC9-wide is most likely the best fit you'll achieve this side of going custom, and as one of the primary contact points with the bike, comfort and fit are critical to ensure pedaling performance hour after hour.

The integrated midsole and upper material comfortably envelop your foot for a secure hold, while the dual Boa Li2 dials and PowerZone wiring guide cinch down for the optimum tension. Precision cable tension is a critical performance tool, whether you are unwinding from an epic five-hour climbing session or torquing down for a finish sprint in the criterium.

Shimano elevates the carbon era with a supremely rigid sole that tests at a stiffness of twelve, meaning you'll never doubt whether your efforts are going into the pedals. This level of control and performance is what we've come to expect from Shimano's top-tier road shoes, and what keeps us dedicated to their component line as well.

A unique trait for the RC9-wide is the incorporation of the Anti-twist heel stabilizer that holds the foot in place while performing high-cadence accelerations. Heel control is not an overly focused target of improvement, as modern-day training plans and single-ring gear ratios push normalized cadences higher and higher.

Visual upgrades include more refined venting hole placements and sleeker-looking logo placement, both of which set the RC9-wide as a visual icon in the peloton.

Bit too wide for me

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bit too wide around the toe area maybe it's the newer sphyre version which they made the toe box even wider. i had ordered the 43.5 in a wide but normally i am size 43/US9. I am going to order the Size 43 in regular width and try out.

True to Size - 45 / 10.5 Wide

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
45/10.5
Height:
6' 1"
Weight:

The shoe is stiff in the sole but also in the synthetic upper which initially gave me the feeling that the shoe wasn't as wide as expected. However, as the shoe is very slowly breaking in after several months of zwift, the toe box and sides of the shoe feel more roomy as expected. I imagine if it was summer and humid, the shoe would break in quicker.
