    Grip it and rip it.

When snow and ice cover your favorite running trails this winter, turn to the insane grip and warmth of the Salomon Men's Speedspike CS Trail Running Shoe. Designed with a ClimaShield construction, this trail running shoe resists rain and mud that you're sure to encounter on your run while maintaining a warm fit and feel, and the Quicklace closure system gets you locked-in and ready to go in mere seconds. Then, the anti-debris mesh allows sweaty moisture to escape while preventing rocks and dirt from getting into your shoe.

A molded EVA footbed cushions over long miles on the trail, and the Sensifit design cradles your foot from the midsole to the lacing system to provide a secure, snug, and essentially customized fit. The real star of this shoe is in the outsole, where the ContraGrip rubber offers durable performance through the coldest days, while a small army of carbide-tipped spikes pierce the slick, unforgiving ice ahead of you for a sure-footed step with every stride.

    • Grippy, warm, and durable winter warriors for your feet
    • Water-resistant upper protects against the elements
    • Quicklace design cinches tight in seconds
    • Debris mesh keeps the trail on the trail
    • EVA footbed cushions constant pounding
    • Grippy outsole has carbide spikes for reliable traction

    A grippy joke

These shoes grip amazingly well, but shame on Salomon for coming to market with a shoe designed for ice and offers little to no protection from the elements. CS in the forefoot simply inst enough. My feet ended up soaked and freezing. Save your money and wait until 2019 when they bring back the tried and tested snowcross with spikes in gore-tex. I will only be using these in dry powdery dust on crust conditions, which is a rarity where I live.

I prefer these to screw shoes

I mostly run in Salomon shoes so I found these to fit and perform much like the others I own. The difference is obviously in the spikes and sole of the shoe itself, which feels a little stiffer and bulkier. The difference isn't enough to really alter stride or striking.

I ran with these on trails that were a mix of mud and slush on south facing slopes and snow and melt/ ice on the north facing sides. They performed well across conditions. I was happy with the grip on the long icy sections in particular and found it to be better than I get with screw shoes or Yak Tracks. In mud or lose gravel I didn't notice the spikes at all. Even on pavement or rocky sections the spikes don't extend far enough to feel like you're riding or skidding on stilts and felt more precise than screw shoes. The tread shed mud well in the muddy parts.

I also noticed that the uppers seemed to keep my feet dry and warmer than a normal shoe, which was nice.

This is obviously a specialty shoe but if you live in an area where your choice is icy trails or treadmills, this is a worthwhile investment. I for one don't enjoy running in Yak Tracks so I found these to be a major upgrade, and the ability to transition from icy to non-icy conditions without having to add/remove a bulky contraption was nice.
