Why We Like The Rome Katana Binding

The Rome 2024 Katana Binding is the ultimate weapon for slicing our way down big-mountain lines and carving up corduroy with ruthless precision. Rome forged the Katana's highback with a single diagonal flex slot, resulting in heelside response that's supportive where we need it and flexible on the inside top corners for tweak and smooth flow. AsymWrap baseplate tech offers quick and powerful edge-to-edge response for charging steeps and weaving through trees while allowing side-to-side flex so we can tweak tricks and get loose. Customizable forward lean, highback rotation and cant, and ankle straps let us dial in the ideal fit and response, and plenty of padding ensures a smooth, chatter-free ride.

Just buy the Katanas already

Fantastic binding! It was a luxury purchase, but I’m super happy with these and could just ride these across my quiver if I chose. I ride 80-100 days/ year and am a bit of a gear junkie (have more overlap than I need). I wanted something tweak-able, yet equally responsive for my shorter freestyle, all-mtn board and these more than fit the bill. Highlights for the katanas - (1) asymwrap gives you a bunch of tip to tail freedom for butters, tweaks, ollie’s, and anything else that requires getting your weight over tips/tails (2) straps are AMAZING, hands down Rome and Bataleon are crushing it here (3) strap adjustability - able to have ankle straps higher on one side than the other to dial the response…and as a bonus - if you have instep pain or struggle getting the ankle strap in the ideal place on your boot then these are the bindings for you. It should solve any ankle strap issues. (4) smooth/damp ride, while maintaining an uncanny amount of board feel. For me, the katanas sit between Union ultras (park and surfy powder days) and now x yes bindings (all-mtn freestyle, but less lateral play and way less board feel), and a noticeable notch below in response from the Bataleon Astro fullwrap or Jones Apollo - both of which lean more freeride / big lines. These are a great, adjustable all-Mtn/freestyle binding. Highly recommend the katanas.

Surfy and Precise

I'm in love with this binding... I've been riding the Katana since ROME first introduced them to the line-up. My size 11 Burton Ion boots fit nicely in the L/XL. This binding comfortably fits boots from size 10-12. If you have a larger boot size you'll want to try the ROME Trace. The binding has evolved a bit since the first generation. The straps have gotten better which has increased the comfort. The highback has been refined to provide a bit more response without losing the surfy vibe that ROME's Asym Wrap is known for. The base foam has changed to smooth out the ride... all positive edits to an amazing set of foot clamps making this the best version of the Katana so far!!!
