The adventure Begins.
Ridley creates the X-Trail Carbon Ultegra Complete Bike as a do it all drop bar bike that can handle cyclocross racing, long gran fondos, or gravel grinding with ease. Normally on bikes designed to crossover into various disciplines, compromises are made. This isn't true with the X-Trail as Ridley took its time designing the geometry and selecting the right materials to ensure the frame can handle whatever you can throw at it in stride. Shimano's Ultegra drivetrain and brakes simply continue to impress us with how close the performance is to Dura-Ace and how precise the shifting feels and how powerful, yet controllable the braking is.
Key to the X-Trail's durability and spirited ride quality is the high modulus carbon fiber used in the frameset that is both stiff and lightweight and can handle its fair share of abuse. The tapered head tube and fork boost stiffness while the thin seat stays add much welcome compliance on braking bump riddle fire roads. The X-Trail's geometry features an increased bottom bracket drop compared to the brand's dedicated cyclocross and road bikes, which lowers the center of gravity to improve stability over rough terrain. The slightly taller head tube improves comfort on longer rides where aerodynamics is not an important feature. A thru-axle on the rear enhance stiffness and we can't fathom running open dropouts with disc brakes. The X-Trail easily clears the 36mm tires and you could probably size up if you need more cushion or take advantage of the extra clearance if your ride encounters mud. The Oryx Disc full carbon fork also employs a thru axle helping to stiffen the front end and ensures that the rotor and caliper are always in alignment. Flat mounts look clean and provide a better interface for mounting the calipers. A bonus for commuters or anyone that isn't deterred by bad weather, the fork features hidden fender mounts keeping water and grit off of you and your bike.
The Shimano Ultegra group and Rotor 3D30 double crank provide tons of gearing options and the hydraulic disc brakes deliver incredible stopping power. Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels are ready to roll into any adventure and Clement X'Plor 700c x 36mm tires roll plenty fast on the pavement and provide exceptional traction when venturing off of it. The Forza stem, handlebar, saddle, and seatpost simply get the job done and provide excellent touch points for whatever adventure you choose to embark on.
