Giving you the best of both worlds for cold-weather protection.
If you need a protective shell for multi-day ski tours and a warm glove for those chilly morning drives to work, the Rab Alliance Glove will give you both. This glove offers a removable liner so you can prepare for your winter endeavors however you want. Its shell is made from Rab's Matrix DWS fabric for stretch, and it has an eVent insert that's waterproof and highly breathable. Rab integrated Pittards Armortan leather around the palm for durability and to give you a better grip on your ski poles. The shell also has a gauntlet drawcord so you can easily cinch the glove tightly around the sleeves of your jacket so no snow gets in.
The removable liner is made out of Pertex Microlight fabric that's lightweight, downproof, windproof, and still breathable. Primaloft insulation means your hands will forget what numbing feels like this winter. Its bemberg lining feels soft as silk so you'll stay comfortable from the moment you grab your steering wheel until you take the gloves off after a successful winter expedition.

- Q & A
Rab & PrimaLoft
PrimaLoft has become the benchmark in synthetic insulation and is now the go-to choice for climbers looking for static protection in extreme conditions. Here at Rab we use the highest quality PrimaLoft Gold insulation in all of our PrimaLoft products.
The technical qualities of PrimaLoft Gold insulation are second to none. Microfibres trap body heat to make it the most thermally-efficient synthetic insulation available today, which even when wet will maintain 96% of its warmth
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
The color of the gloves was not as described/illustrated. The fit is small. The fit is better without the liners. The liners are nylon shell with down - like fill. I'm returning them for Hetras!
Small odd fit
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've heard good things about Rab gloves but they have an odd fit. Many say they fit small and they definitely do. I'm usually borderline medium or large in gloves (with a preference for medium in liners and large for outers to allow layering). My hand measures 8" across which puts me at the bottom end of Medium for rab gloves. With all this, sounded like a large would fit well in this glove.
It does, sorta. The primaloft liner in large is perfect and the outer in larger is a great glove with just enough room for layering a fleece or powerstretch glove under. There lies the problem, the inner and outer together, with a medium sizing up for large, is too tight of a fit. The fit is passable but I feel like my bare hand is compressed. Ideally my hand should only feel tight if I was wearing a thin powerstretch liner after sizing up.
My intended use was for trekking and not technical winter climbing. Sizing up I would call it a "technical" fit. Sizing up two sizes would be better for warmth and general use. I've not gotten to use it in cold yet but some reviews call it a fair single digit (F) glove. With the small sizing, I'm expecting to lose some of that warmth due to constricted blood flow. I got a good deal so will keep the gloves and probably use them separately, but if buying definitely size up one or two sizes from what the sizing chart provides.
The right glove also has a weird pinkie finger. I can only put it on if I extend my pinkie up (think pinkie out when drinking from a tea cup). Doing this is very easy and effective but odd still. The left glove liner slides on fine no matter what, it's just a poor QA thing with the right.
Individually I would rate the liners and the shell each higher, but as a set the sizing is not optimized. I'll update later in the season to see if they loosen up with usage.
Safety Leashes by chance?
Safety Leashes by chance?
Yes, the Rab Alliance Glove does have a safety leash. Sorry our information on this page does not reflect that but I will see about getting that fixed.
Thanks for the follow up Mike. You are currently out of my size so I ordered a pair of Lobsters for now and a pair of those awesome Salomon Snowtrip boots for my son. Thanks, I appreciate doing business with Backcountry.com. You guys and gals are great.
