Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Ride GX Transmission Mountain Bike
Cross-country bike in efficiency and lightweight trail bike in capability, the Pivot Mach 4 SL is a versatile bike that blurs the lines on what a cross-country bike can do. The newest version of the Mach 4 SL has been redesigned and features a slackened head tube angle, steeper seat tube angle, and longer chainstays, reach, and wheelbase, all while shaving weight by nearly a pound from the previous model's frame. The Mach 4 SL also features a new rocker link that incorporates a flip chip for adjustable geometry. Now equipped with 106mm of premium DW-Link suspension over the previous 100mm, the Mach 4 SL is more capable than ever and also gives us the option of changing to 115MM when we adjust the geometry, allowing us to easily change our ride to better suit the terrain. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle when equipped with a 120mm fork, the head tube angle is much slacker compared to the previous model, allowing us to be more composed and confident when descending. A steeper seat tube angle allows for a more efficient climbing position, and a longer wheelbase and chainstays aid in the bike's stability when flying downhill.
The Ride GX Eagle Transmission AXS build of the Pivot Mach 4 SL features some of the most impressive components on the market at a price point that is actually manageable. Pivot's premium carbon frame improved as well, shaving 280 grams over the previous version. SRAM's GX Transmission AXS drivetrain provides flawless electronic shifting and features an overload clutch that can automatically move out of the way and realign itself after taking a hit. Moving onto the wheels, Pivot slapped on the DT Swiss X1900 rims paired with their 370 hubs to give us a capable and durable wheelset that won't break the bank. A Fox Performance 34 Step-Cast fork with 120mm of travel is lightweight and helps to keep us under control as we are bombing for the finish line. A Fox Performance Float rear shock is a bigger volume shock over that standard Fox DPS and gives us more small bump sensitivity and a smoother ride. Rounding this build off, Maxxis Ardent Race tires give us race-worthy speed and minimal rolling resistance while providing us the grip it takes to rail corners at Mach speed.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
