A perfect mix.
When your active clothes can do double duty as casual duds, you know you've landed yourself a solid wardrobe. If you're still working on getting there, make some space on a hanger for the Ortovox Women's Merino Melange Hooded Fleece Jacket. On the weekends, this merino-and-polyester jacket shines as a midlayer between a shell and your ultralight baselayer, whether you're lapping the resort or cruising up the skintrack sans shell. Ortovox trusts a merino lining to regulate your temperature as you transition from first chair chills to midday sweat on the bootpack, then uses a polyester shell to add durability and improve moisture transfer on the surface. The storm hood works well on-snow or when you're running errands in town, and the upper arm pocket stashes your phone or pass with equal ease.
- Blend casual and active pursuits in this adaptable midlayer

I really liked the fit of this jacket, but didn't love the fabric. I was intrigued by the merino element, but in my opinion, the polyester outer kind of ruined it... If you are looking for something with a bit of a sheen (and therefore probably a teeny bit of wind proofing) then this could be just what you were looking for. Bottom Line: I didn't love the satiny finish of the fabric, but the fit and everything else was great.

I've found this piece to be excellent for backcountry skiing and ice climbing. It's thicker than my average next-to-baselayer fleeces, and in the winter, I appreciate the extra warmth! It can go weeks without stinking up, meaning I have to spend less time doing laundry. The thumb loops keep my sleeves down, and the high collar adds some extra warmth when the temperatures drop. Another great bonus of this piece is the style - great for the backcountry, or grabbing a beer at the bar after a day full of adventures.
