Why We Like The NEMO Dragonfly OSMO Tent

Light yet spacious, the NEMO Dragonfly OSMO Tent balances comfort and performance for our backpacking trips. Its asymmetrical design gives us generous interior space with large trapezoidal vestibules for added gear storage. The two large doors make it easy to get in and out of the tent without trampling our partner. The hubbed, pre-bent DAC Featherlite poles increase volume at the head, peak, and foot for more height and livable space, and they're color-coded for quick and intuitive setup.

New for 2023, NEMO's OSMO fabric adds more sustainable performance with GRS-certified, 100 percent recycled yarns that have 4x more water repellency and 3x less stretch when wet. It's also PFC-free and PFAS-free to give us water protection and fire retardancy without adding forever chemicals that degrade the environment we love. All in all, it's a light, comfortable, and responsible backpacking tent from one of our favorite US brands.

Good unless it rains

This is a great tent….IF you camp when it isn’t raining. I’m basically echoing what a lot of others have said unfortunately. The good is that it goes up easily (even for one person) and there’s enough room for my husband and I. However, the one night we took it out and it rained it was horrible. It didn’t even rain that much…a VERY tiny cell of rain. We woke up to lots of wetness having leaked through the head end where the cut out in the fly was. Pretty disappointed honestly. It’s such an expensive tent and I expected a lot more! So now we have to look into a new tent bc this one can’t be used in last minute rainy situations imo.

Well thought out design features

Finally got to use this tent this last weekend and I couldn’t get over the design of this thing. Not just the overall tent but the features it has from the clips, to the poles, to the interior pockets. Everything had been throughly thought through during the design of this tent. Now I have the previous model “dragonfly 2” (not osmos) only difference being the fabric used I believe. Which if I had one thing to point out about the tent is the fabric on the floor is definitely thin, there’s no way I’d feel comfortable using without a foot print. I’m curious if the “osmo” has a stronger floor than my previous model. I think I’m a Nemo customer for life though, after realizing the quality of this I now want see if Nemo makes as good of a sleeping pad as they do a tent. The tensor all season seems to have awesome reviews as well.

No better tent!

I have owned this tent for over 5 years. It has thousands of kilometers of travel on bicycles, in kayaks and motorcycle adventure touring. It has been setup from mountain tops to Death Valley, and in weather ranging from torrid rain to desert heat. This is an excellent tent. The tent is really bomb proof. It repels water very well while maintaining its light weight packability. The dual vestibules provide easy access from either side and tons of storage space for packs, panniers, or other gear you want out of view or out of the weather. The air flow is really good too. The fly can be off, partially open, or fully open to the zippered doors. The new OSMO fabric version has improved the fly flap hold-back, making it easier to secure and release (especially in the dark). The inside of the tent provides plenty of room to move about. It also has good storage pockets for your stuff, a nice loft in the top of the tent and a couple neat little light-diffusing holders above the head area that allows to tuck your head-light into them and light up the whole tent. The Dragonfly has lots of options to secure it down (helpful in strong winds or to keep the tent a fly tight in rain events). There is no better tent peg than NEMO peg. I have pounded a lot tent pegs and these are simply the best! I will provide a couple of comments that might be helpful to either the person considering the tent and for NEMO. First, I would suggest the optional footprint for the tent. While never an absolute requirement the footprint does provide just a little added protection for the floor of the tent. Second, the buyer will have to acquire a couple more tent pegs if they want to use all the securing guy line tie-downs. The third consideration is NEMO's Warranty. I had an issue with my first tent and they fully stood behind their product - absolutely without question. And finally, a comment to NEMO. The foot-end fly guy line is affixed to the fly at a point up the ridge pole. While this helps secure the structure of the tent it does not provide any relief of the fly from the base of the tent. So, with or without this guy line secured rain runs down the fly and onto the tent body rather than being directed away from the tent itself. Moving the attachment to the bottom edge of the fly would fix this. All in all I have never owned a better 2-person tent (including Moss, MSR, Mountain Equipment Coop, Kelty). Well done NEMO!!

Nemo continues to deliver

Bought their dragonfly and was not disappointed. I bought the 2P so i could have ample room and i did. 6’2” and 280. More than enough room for gear for me and the dog.

Super lightweight and packable

This tent is super light and packs down very small. Purchased for backpacking and long canoe trips. Love the asymmetrical design for more headroom and the clip together pole setup was super easy. Can’t wait to take it into the backcountry!

Great features

Bought this to fill my desire for an ultra light weight tent. It has filled this role well. It’s certainly light but the tent has other virtues as well. Easy set up, awesome fly, and keeps me dry! My only concern is the durability of such a light weight tent. Obviously it will not be as durable as a heavier tent but it’s something I think about. Overall, this tent is everything I was looking for in this category. The two tone mesh took a bit of getting used to but it’s a nice but not needed addition. I’ll be using it quite a bit this year so an updated review in a few months will be forth coming.

Not for backpacking.

I believe this particular tent is advertised as a backpacking tent. NEMO makes lighter tents for that. I’ve put this tent thru the ringer quite a few times and it’s never failed me. This is my go to tent, for when out and about on my own. Either hunting or out fishing for a few days. It’s not only easy to set up, it withstands whatever you throw at it. It’s been covered in snow and it still kept me dry. I would say that the only con I have, is the head room. You won’t be able to stand up, but depending on your height, you can easily move around while on your knees. I absolutely love this tent. My wife is usually a bit picky, but we took this out for an overnight trip not long ago, and she loved it. 3 of us have slept in it, 2 adults and my 16 year old daughter and their was plenty of space for us. Our packs stayed in the truck, and probably wouldn’t fit inside with 3 people. But most of the time it’s just me and my Golden Lab. Although this tent isn’t cheap, it’s also not super expensive. You won’t regret buying this tent and I would absolutely recommend it.

Spacious and Durable tent!

I bought this tent just over a month ago and love it! I have used it 20+ days in the field and am quite impressed with it. I worked a course in the Northen San Rafael Swell in UT. and the tent held up through 50+mph winds. I appreciate the water repelancy and lack of stretch that this tent has as well. Lastly, I really appreciate the spacious head room that it has. I love this tent and have even talked a coworker into getting a NEMO tent.

Great packed size and versatility!

Purchased to replace a backpacking tent and to use for bikepacking. So far has been amazing for backpacking, paddle trips and bikepacking. The small packed size and roomy interior makes it ideal for my pup, partner and I. My only concern is the durability of the very light screen and tent fabric. BUT I have faith, NEMO products have been a trusted companion in the outdoors for many years.
