I am very happy with
I am very happy with this stove base. I purchased it for use on an 8 day ski traverse and the light weight and packability were greatly appreciated. I was able to pack the Trillium in the 2. 5L pot along with a Whisperlite and wind shield + two collapsible camp bowls to make efficient use of space while moving camps. It does get fairly warm and will melt into the snow gradually, but it does a good job of staying level as long as there is weight on top of the stove. I would prefer a proper stove board for a base-camp style setup, but when the stove is moving every day this is great. On the wire-legged Whisperlite the locking interface is a fairly loose fit and this allowed the fuel line to push one leg up. This is relatively minor as the stove sits level when there is a pot on top, but it can lead to biased melting in the snow if the stove sits for any period of time without weight on top. This is a non-issue on hard surfaces or dirt.

Confirm Fit First
This base does not fit my dragonfly stove, and so was just lost money. There was no fitment guide when I purchased the base, so it will be a good idea to contact someone at Cascade Designs before purchasing. However, it will be even better if Cascade Designs will provide a guide.

Convenient and durable.
For just a little more weight, this base is far more stable than the little foil ring, and forever durable. While maybe not critical for a single day trip, it's essential equipment for expeditions or prolonged use.

Safety first. For the weight, this is a worthwhile item. Best case, it keeps you steady, worst case you can cook right on fresh snow or on uneven terrain.

The Stove Stabilizer!
Small, lightweight, compact, stabilizes, and easy to use. Keep the stoves legs out of the snow during winter camping. A great platform in almost any environment to cook on. Brilliant idea to use with most stoves.

The Trilliium. The all terrain base
I had used my MSR Whisperlite for a couple years, and had to spend a little time making sure it was on solid footing before putting on that big pot of dinner to cook. I came across the MSR Trillium base for the Whisperlite, and was immediately impressed. I've used it on sand at the beach, rocks at the river's edge, logs in the woods and even on the snowy mountain sides. For the small amount of additional weight to pack, I have the satisfaction of knowing my dinner isn't going to get spilled onto the ground ever again, because the trillium creates a secure and stable base for my stove. The Trillium folds up to 1/3 it's expanded size, and fits nicely inside my cooking pot for transport. I consider the MSR Trillium and essential piece of kit for my backpacking adventures
