Classic style, sustainable design.
Designed with commuters and outdoor enthusiasts in mind, the Millican Smith 25L Roll Laptop Backpack is a tough, weather-resistant bag with a vintage look. It's also consciously-crafted to ensure equal levels of quality and sustainable design by using smart construction and eco-friendly materials.
One of the easiest ways to increase sustainability is to simply make the things last longer, so Millican built this pack with a burly canvas fabric and minimal seam design to ensure durability. The fabric is a blend of natural cotton and recycled polyester that's less wasteful, and strong, lightweight aluminum buckles negate the need for plastics. Millican also impregnated the fabric with paraffin wax, rather than coated it, in order to reduce weight and give the fabric a tactile feel.

- Q & A
Great Travel Bag
This is a great bag that I use while traveling. The quality is really great and the straps are really comfortable. I love that it is waterproof. There are tons of pockets and compartments that make it really easy to organize things in and not have to dig through the backpack. My only criticism is that I could not get a 15 inch laptop into the side compartment without seriously forcing it in. So I just use one of the inside compartments.
Great weekend travel companion
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I love this pack for short weekend trips as a carry on bag. It's also great for day trips that require a larger pack or a school bag. I love all of the pockets and compartments within the pockets. The external laptop pocket makes for easy access and is great for airport security. The side pockets are big enough to fit my giant hydroflask and there is an easy access pocket in the back panel that fits keys and a cell phone nicely. The roll top really lets you over pack this thing but can compress down to carry on size in a pinch. You do need to be mindful to not over pack it too much though if you are trying to get it under the seat. The bag is also made out of recycled (technically re-used) materials, so it's environmentally friendly. The bag is also built to last, I see this bag out living me for sure.
My only complaint would be that when it's really loaded up to max capacity it can be a little uncomfortable after walking around for a while. Also, the bag alone is fairly heavy compared to some backpacking bags, but that's a given and can be expected when you aren't using synthetic materials and a bunch of plastic.
Overall, Millican has a life time customer in me. Their bags are beautifully and thoughtfully engineered with a classic style and sustainability kept in mind. There are so many small details in this bag that really go above and beyond, you can tell that a lot of thought and care went into the design and manufacturing of this bag.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I use this backpack every day; never once has it let me down.
- More than enough room for anything that one might need
- Great for carrying school books
- Many great inner compartments for organization
- Great for using on short day hikes, considering that it has trekking pole holders, water bottle compartments (2) and ample space for a rain jacket, etc.
- It is really waterproof, which is an especially nice feature
- Great laptop compartment
This is an expensive backpack, but it is absolutely worth it. A costly initial investment will pay dividends in the future when this backpack lasts just as long as four lesser quality bags might.
Admittedly, I did not buy this bag from Backcountry, as I did not know that they sold it, but this is the place to get it!
