    Room to roam.

The Marmot Colfax 4-Person 3-Season Tent sleeps four comfortably, but that doesn't mean you need to try and cram the entire family reunion in there. You could sleep in there with a just a friend or two, and maybe your pup, and still have plenty of space to stretch out, relax, and enjoy the night. The Colfax's roomy footprint is big enough for an air mattress, and its nearly vertical walls help to maximize interior space so you don't feel like the walls are falling in on you. Marmot also hooked it up with a spacious double door, so there's  plenty of space to crawl in and out of the tent or throw in that plush mattress when you can spare the space. In addition to the large front door, the Colfax also sports three zippered windows that can be opened up to vent hot air and draw in a cool breeze, or closed up when conditions are a little colder.

    Great ventilation

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Head space, room, and ventilation were great!
    The right, rear corner leaked.
The zipper to the vestibule didn't have a string or latch to open from the inside making it difficult to close and open.
I generally wasn't a huge fan of the tent but it got the job done.

    Love this tent . . .

What a great purchase I made! I bought this tent last year as a temporary place for a visiting friend, "glamping style". I have since used it as my own outside bedroom for hot summer nights. I can watch the night sky and fall asleep with a cool night breeze. I have also taken this car camping on the Puget Sound where my friend and I have enjoyed part of our summer. It is great to be retired with the whole northwest at our fingertips! The tent ads a touch of luxury.

      Great basecamping tent

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Used this tent for 4 days in a campground. Nice to have footprint included with tent. Setup is easy - orient footprint (color coded corners), place tent on top of footprint, lay out poles, attach to grommets, clip tent onto poles, attach fly. With practice, maybe a couple of minutes once footprint is situated. Tent is freestanding so 2 people can easily move it around before staking corners. Lots of ventilation and internal storage pockets. Easy to pack up - put ends of fly into center, just fold fly, tent, and footprint in half twice, put poles and stakes in center, and roll up everything. Fits storage bag easy.

Only complaints - no drawstring on right hand fly zipper, so hard to open from that side, and they provide the guy lines for staking the fly but no stakes.

Overall, this is a well made, nicely constructed, easy to use basecamp tent.

      Great ventilation and headroom, but...

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really like most of the design features of this tent. It's very roomy with plenty of headroom. My wife is 5'2," and I am 5'6," and we can both stand comfortably throughout most of the tent. As far as ventilation goes, I have seen few, if any, tents that have more ventilation that this tent with all the windows down. I also like the fact that the entire roof is mesh, which facilitates stargazing in addition to the great ventilation. Also, the overall weight is fantastic given the roomy interior.
My least favorite design feature is the back door, especially since I am used to the vestibule being at the back door, which makes more sense to me. This tent has only mesh on the front wall, which is mostly the spacious front door, and the only way to provide privacy is to attach the vestibule to the rain fly. So if you want to store gear within the vestibule, you have to maneuver around the gear every time you get in or out of your tent, unless you use the back door. This would be no problem at all, if the back door were a fully functional door. But for some reason, Marmot decided to install single sided zipper handles on the back door, so they are a little awkward to access from outside the tent. Turning the back door into the primary door is less than ideal due to not having an external zipper handle to easily grasp. Overall though, I am very pleased with my purchase; I just wish they had made the main door opposite the vestibule, or at least made the back door more functional from the outside.

      Unanswered Question

I like to have complete privacy. Can the Colfax be set up so no one can stand outside the tent and peer in? Thanks in advance.
