A warm winter jacket for your kid.

Make sure your kid stays nice and toasty this winter with the Marmot Boys' Ajax Down Jacket. The Ajax features all the same qualities as Dad's version, such as the ripstop polyester with a DWR treatment to repel snow flurries, and the same 600-fill duck down insulation to help your boy stay warm. A draft flap behind the main zipper prevents that sneaky air from coming in through the teeth, and the elastic cuffs on the sleeves keep air from blowing up the arms. Zippered hand pockets let your little guy keep his snacks when you're out on the trail.

Got this jacket on sale, for around $50 or %55. Great value. My 6-year-old son loves this coat, mainly because it is light. I suspect it is not as warm as the Patagonia down sweater, but it is more durable, less delicate. My son wears this for an inside jacket, and under his outside coat. It's the layer he grabs on a daily basis. I do wish it had a cinch on the waist, because my little guy is very thin, so the air goes up and there is no way to tighten the waist to prevent this from happening.

      Bang for your buck killer!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this jacket for my six year old son, who really lets you know what he likes (as well as what he doesn't) by either telling you he likes it or doesn't like it. According to him, this is an awesome jacket!

Material: Surprisingly durable, especially when it is being worn every day to play outside, run around with the dogs, and wear to and from school. No rips or tears to report as of this review. However, as with most down jackets, once it gets wet it does noticeably lose its loft and warmth.

Fit: I purchased the size medium for my son, and it fits him perfectly. The sleeves come right down to his wrists, without being too long (or too short when lifting his arms to play on the monkey bars). I feel as though it runs true to size. The jacket rests right on his waist line, and looks sharp for a daily cold weather jacket.

Features: The Durable Water Repellant Coating is a plus as well, especially when used to play in the snow. It allows for more time outside, rather than him being inside playing video games. The zippered hand pockets are nice, as he is able to keep his gloves secured (and sometimes snacks) so that they are not misplaced at school.

In a nutshell, this jacket is a great option for those children who are active, love the outdoors, and are always on the run. At a price point of $84.95, you get a great quality product that will keep your kid happy and warm and looking sharp as well.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or to place an order. I would be happy to provide you with a personalized experience here at Backcounty!

Hope to see you out there!

My 7 & 9 year old sons have worn these jackets almost daily for the past two winters. The jackets have been worn to school, playing in the neighborhood, downhill skiing, camping, snowmobiling and ice skating on the pond. They are so well used that the dirt will no longer wash out of them. But they are warm, lightweight and durable and my sons refuse to give them up unless they get new ones. When we replace them, undoubtedly it will be with new Marmot jackets.
P.S. They pair up well with kids Precip jackets for a nice puffy/shell combo.

      Not great

Bought 2 of these for my sons. They look nice and wash well. However, my oldest ripped his coat on the playground after only a month and lost some of the filling. He's an active boy, so not totally unexpected, but his NF down coat had lasted 3 years without any snags on the same school playground. Then, the zipper on my other son's coat broke after 2 months. They generally are pretty easy on clothes, so I'm thinking I won't order this brand again with 2 coats that can't finish out a winter season.

      Unanswered Question

Hi, I love this jacket for my son but I'm concerned there looks to be no hood..?? I looked at the Ama Dablam and that one is similar to the Marmot that I own, I know that one will be warm enough & has the hood but I love this style much more. Any advice on a jacket that has the style of this one but the warmth of the Ama Dablam? Also, if I do decide to go with this one, I'm not sure what size to go with. My son is 8, on the small side. In tops he's an 8 but can still get away with wearing a 7 at times. Thanks for any advice you can give!
