If you want big-hit capability, and ready-for anything geometry, you could take a look at the Ibis Mojo HD3, with its 160mm of travel. Or, you could stay right here and take another look at the Mojo HDR 650B frame. While certainly not up to its bigger brother’s capabilities when it comes to pure travel, the Mojo HDR is a machine that you can pedal all day, and still take on the rough stuff on the way back to the car.
Ibis rallied on the success of its quick transition to the suddenly-popular 650B wheel size, and reimagined its extremely popular HD3 into a shorter-travel package that retains all the characteristics that make the Mojo great. It all starts with the DW-link suspension design. The DW-link effectively isolates braking and pedaling forces from the suspension kinematics, which creates a very neutral-feeling suspension as you’re riding, but allows for a plush, bottomless feel when you hit the techy downhill bits.
Perhaps the biggest improvement over the transitional Mojo frames is tire clearance — where you’d have been lucky to get a 2.25in tire to fit previously, Ibis has carved out enough room for most 2.35in tires, which help keep the Mojo HDR squarely in trail-bike territory.
