Heavyweight winter warmth, with the stretch you need to send.

Bone-chilling days at the boulder fields offer fantastic climbing, but it's difficult to dress accordingly unless you have the Ibex Women's Izzi Tavern Pant on. Made mostly with merino wool and a bit of Lycra, this form-fitted pant regulates your body temperature so you stay warm when you chill at the bottom of the boulder and you stay cool while you climb. It's also naturally antimicrobial so your pant won't emit that unique stench climbers have, so feel free to hit up the pub after your climbing session without changing. The tapered legs slide right into your boots without adding any bulk, and the welt pocket securely stores your license and the few bucks you have.

BEST wool pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium
  • Height: 5'2"
  • Weight: 125lbs

Ibex has the quality to last. The gauge of the wool is outstanding. Fit is true-to-size.

Compared to Izzy Leggings

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL
  • Height: 5'5"
  • Weight: 179lbs

I tried both the Izzy Tavern Pant and the Izzy Leggings. I thought I might like the Taven pant better due to the looser fit, but decided to go with the leggings as a more flattering option for my pear shape.

The Tavern Pant has a higher rise/waist, and is looser through the hips and seat. I am pear shaped, and short for my size, so the Izzy Leggings turned out to be the more flattering option for me. The high waist on the Tavern Pant cut in to my sides, vs the mid-rise and wide waistband on the Izzy Leggings laying smooth.

These have the same comfortable fabric as the Izzy. Still a great pant! And great to have options for different shapes and style preferences.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

the bit about the pocket is a dirty, dirty lie. otherwise these pants are a winner: very cozy and warm. not the most flattering cut ever, but you can't have it all!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Weight: 140lbs

I like these pants very much because they are not too tight and they're very warm. I still wear tall socks underneath during this frigid Northeastern weather. The price advertised is deceiving because it looks like all sizes are on sale when in fact only the extra small are.

I'll Bet on Ibex!

  • Fit: True to size

I've always been an advocate for all things wool, however, I couldn't get past the price tag. I always settled for last season's synthetics and rationalized my decision, saying that "oh, they won't stink. oh, it'll dry super fast, it works just as well as wool." Time and time again, my synthetics (* Patagonia Expedition Weight Cap 4 are exempt from this statement *) have proven that decision very, very wrong.

I decided on Ibex for a variety of reasons - namely because as a former Vermont resident, I felt that Ibex (as a VT based company) really understood the need for durability, warmth and style simultaneously. I believe that this company "gets it" - their design is sleek, yet traditional New England-y.

I chose the Tavern Pants because I wanted something versatile. I'm familiar with the Izzi Pant (and have long yearned for them, however I find that the width of the pant leg is too wide for me) and figured that the weight of the Izzi would be thick enough to serve as a legging (on its own) or a base layer.

I got these in the mail on Saturday and have worn them every single day since then. These pants are SO WARM. You can layer more base layers underneath without being bulky, or you can wear them on their lonesome and they're so cozy. The material dries super quickly ( I fell in a snow bank shoveling my car) I'm beyond impressed - the construction of the pant is so flattering (it's not quite a legging, but yet not a straight leg either), the material is like their 250 weight, it doesn't get stinky and it wears well (aka it doesn't stretch out!!!!). Also for size reference - they run really similar in size to Patagonia. I'm an XS in PAT CAP base layers and bought an XS in these pants. Love them!!!

Sadly, I think it might be time to don some other pantalones but I've definitely been converted.

Warm, good-looking and not itchy!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I love these pants. Have worn Izzi pants for a couple of winters, and came across this straight-leg version in my re-ordering search. Simple and straightforward, and the seam placement is flattering. I'm 5'3", 120 lbs. and small fits perfectly.

No pockets, but the pockets on the regular Izzi pants are kind of a joke anyway!I haven't yet washed these, but my old Izzis handle washer and dryer quite well.

Unanswered Question

Are these Pants thick enough to climb in? Do you think they would snag or tear?
