Why We Like The HOKA Challenger ATR 7 GTX Running Shoe

For that one shoe quiver that can take us from pounding pavement to striding singletrack, we look to the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 GTX Running Shoe. The updated tread provides a smoother ride on road yet still bites on trail, while the hardwearing rubber stands strong against daily use. Now with an increased stack height, this pair mutes the shock of our strikes for an ultra-plush ride. Plus, with a breathable membrane shielding our feet from rain, not even surprise showers can disrupt our flow.

I would purchase this again IF it had a wider toe box

It says its "cushion" but realistically I felt it very responsive, but I only been using it on the roads and not really on the trails. It truly lives up to the gortex name, HOWEVER, that narrow toe box is not a good time. I was worried it would be narrorw because recently Hokas have been having more and more of a narrow toe box, so I went up half a size and that still didn't help. So please Hoka start making WIDE options for your GTX please

Really like this shoe.

Has a little wider toe box. I need wide width due to bunion. It's very comfortable and doesn't need much breaking in. Plan to wear in Scotland. My husband has them also.

Solid Shoe

I use these shoes for running and outdoor activities in wet and damp/cold conditions. It is a better-than-average gore-tex running shoe.

Redesign is a failure for me

The higher outside higher lateral piece of rubber in the recent design causes foot pain for me. Had to try many inserts to make them wearable. Sadly, I will be leaving a brand that I truly loved. They are a great product for those who's foot fits the design.

Possibly will buy the challenger gtx again

It's 7 out of 10 for what it is. Very good ground feel/cushioning, allows you to pick up the pace. Tackyness of the rubber is mediocre runs a full size bigger that my mach X and Bondi 8 which is not ideal, would buy it again and get a size smaller.

I may not buy this again

This is the second pair of Challenges 7 GTX I purchased (first pair was about 2 years ago). Not as comfortable and plush feeling as the first pair. I found out it is noticeable that the new pair is narrower (about 1/4 inch) and the material around is just a bit less support feeling. Not sure why HOKA wants to change (reduce) the quality when you had a successful product before.

Great shoes but

I bought the shoes 4 months ago for work. I only wear them to work, and the material on the ouside of the shoe is already tearing. I have been wearing Hokas for several years and these are the first pair to show signs of wear this fast. I probably will not buy this shoe again, but I will definitely keep buying Hokas.

Overall solid shoe

I work on my feet all day on concrete floors and these seem to hold up very well so far. My feet aren't aching like they always do after work and they feel cushioned when I walk

This is a really good shoe

I am 76 years old with bad knees and a heel that was fractured 20 years ago. I play golf through the winter time in Charlotte, NC. It can be cold (temp in the 30's) and wet. These shoes have kept my feet incredibly warm and dry. I have been very pleased with how good they are. They also provide the plush cushion that the Bondi 8's give me. The only drawback are the limited number of colors available (currently only 3). I highly recommend the Challenger GTX
