A spine-like structure in the heel helps to balance the stress of a fully-loaded pack and ventilating mesh allows the regular exchange of hot air for cooler air inside. And when the trail turns loose you'll be able to rely on the Vibram outsole to dig deep for all the traction you need to stay on your feet.
